General Banter / Alexander and the Greats at the KC Wide Open
« on: June 04, 2011, 11:45:13 AM »
Bob Hayett here.  The band I'm in right now, Alexander and the Greats, will be performing at the Wide Open right after the Sunday final round.  After that we've got two events (Battle of the Bands) we'd like for you to attend if interested.  The big one is July 3.  The other one is at the end of June.  I'll get details soon, exact times, addresses, and ticket prices.  Hope to see everyone at one of these events.  Come out and support local live ORIGINAL music.  We also have completed our first demo CD.  We'll have these available for you also real soon.  Our band is a power trio featuring smoking hot guitar stud Alexander Harrison.

I hate to say this but I'm smelling another Red Wing Stanley Cup celebration.  The only team standing in their way was the Canucks and Chicago took too much out of them.  You'll be seeing Pavel carrying the Cup around the ice after winning Most Valuable Player in the playoffs award (Damn it).

I can see banning smoking if the county is under a red warning for fires.  I can't see banning smoking for any other reason.  The level of second-hand smoke OUTSIDE has NEVER been proven scientifically to be a health hazzard.  It's utterly INSANE to ban smoking outside period.  I guess there are towns that now ban smoking anywhere other than inside your own single family dwelling, even outside.  The air pollution airborne molecules probably are infinitely greater in density than the smoke molecules.  I think we have really gone TOO FAR with the smoking bans.  I believe it should be up to each business owner to allow or not allow smoking in their INDOOR place of business.  That's IT.  A lot of this crap has to do with attorneys having another avenue to get filthy rich.  It all should be thrown out of court...forever.

Years from now they will find that tobacco is good for you, just like in Woody Allen's movie "Sleeper"  Then they will find that all along something like tomato juice gives you lung cancer...

The beauty of basketball, college or pro, is that a few good players can make a huge difference.  The "mid-majors" are starting to achieve parity with the big conferences.  Butler in the Final 4 two consecutive years plus VCU is perfect evidence of that.  Both Butler and VCU head coaches should stay right where they are.  To me it would be crazy for them to leave.  Now every good high school basketball player is going to consider going to either school.  Building up programs and leaving is usually a bad move.

Those who didn't make the show missed a spectacular 30 minutes of entertainment by the final contestant at the Battle of the Bands at Jerry's Bait in Lee's Summit last night.  Alexander and the Greats (check out the Facebook page for Alexander and the Greats) consist of Alexander Harrison on vocals/lead guitar, fisherman bob (me) on bass/vocals, and the Great Terry Stanley on drums.  The finals are at the Beaumont Club in Kansas City, Mo. July 3.  You'll want to get your tickets early for that one.

There's been rapid rise and fall of Earth's temperatures going back millions of years.  There's also been a rise in Mars temperatures lately IN THE SAME PROPORTION AS THE EARTH'S RISE IN TEMPERATURE.  Man must be really influential to cause Mars to heat up, or cattle farts must be very potent...

Jesus, Moses and God are playing ball golf and are teeing off on a 250 yard par three.  There's a stiff breeze blowing right towards them.  Jesus tees off first with a 5 wood and hits a high arcing, majestic shot that the wind catches.  The ball lands short of the green in a pond.  Next moses tees off with his 3 wood and hits a high arcing, majestic shot that the wind pushes into the same pond, short of the green.  God then gets up with his 3 iron.  "Father you'll never reach the green.  You saw Moses and myself fall short with our woods" says Jesus.  God ignores Jesus and hits a high arcing, majestic shot that lands ten feet behind the pin and backspins right to the hole and ends up within a foot of the cup.  Jesus walks on the water of the pond, reaches in the water and retrieves his ball.  Moses then parts the water and retrieves his ball.  God is standing behind the green with his arms folded, a big smile upon his face.  After hitting their penalty shots up on the green Moses says to Jesus "Who does God think he is anyway, Jack Nicklaus?"

An old guy on a rocking chair on his front porch sees a kid walking up the street carrying some duct tape.  "Hey kid, where you going with that duct tape?"  asks the old man.  "Going down to the pond to catch me some ducks" says the kid.  "You can't catch ducks with duct tape" says the old man.  An hour later the kid comes back from the pond with a bunch of ducks stuck to the duct tape.  "Well I'll be..." says the old man.  Next day the kid comes up the street with some chicken wire.  "Hey kid where you going with that chicken wire?  asks the old man.  "Going to the field to catch me some chickens" says the kid.  "You can't catch chickens with chicken wire" says the old man.  An hour later the kid walks by with chickens stuck to the chicken wire.  "Well I'll be..." says the old man.  The next day the kid comes up the street with some pussy willow.  The old man gets up out of his rocking chair and says "Hey kid, wait for me..."
