Title: Kansas City Mini Series - 2013
Post by: DDKC Scott Reek on January 14, 2013, 02:52:12 PM
The Kansas City Mini Series is a series of events that are hosted by Dynamic Discs or other organizers that wish to be a part of the series.  It is designed for players to be able to compete within the Kansas City area and be rewarded for a season of good play and a way for other players to measure their skill level.
The Kansas City Mini Series will consist of 7 events.
•   SMP Frostbreaker Feb 17th, 2013
•   Kan U Wyco March 9th, 2013
•   Rosedale Open March 10th, 2013
•   Midwest Championship May
•   Mighty Mo June
•   Paradise Diamond August
•   City of Fountains November

How the Kansas City Mini Series Works?
First, you attend the event and play just like you would do any other time.  At the end of the event, Dynamic Discs will take the results and give points based on how many people you have a better score than overall.
If you have the best score of the tournament, then you would have beaten 100% of the field, which would give you 100 points.  If you beat 85% of the tournament, than you will be awarded 85 points and so on.
You are awarded points based on your best 3 out of 7 events.  The top 40% of the players who attend 3 of the 7 events will be awarded an end of season bonus payout.

This structure allows you to be rewarded for a season of good play and is not dictated by a single event.

Which Divisions will be available?
All divisions will be offered as long as the division has the required amount of players (3) to complete a division.  If a division that is offered below does not have at least three players who have played in 3 of the 7 events, that division will be merged with the closest division.

What if I play in multiple divisions?
A person will be assigned to the division in which they have competed the majority of the time in or have declared they are officially moving up.  The division that was played the majority of the time for the three events they are receiving points for will be the division assigned.
For example, if a players plays an open tournament and receives 80 points and has 2 advanced events with points of 85 and 90, then this player would be assigned to the Advanced Division.  Dynamic Discs will monitor this as much as possible to keep competition fair.

What are the rewards per division?
All Pro Divisions will be awarded with Cash and Amateur Divisions will be awarded with Dynamic Discs Gift Certificates.

Might have missed it, but is there a buy in?

And if so, does your score only play against those others who also have bought in? (i.e. If there are three people playing and you get third, but only yourself and the winner opted in, do you then get a 0? Or do you get a 33?)

There is not a buy in, everyone who plays the event will automatically be included into the standings

pretty cool, how many of these will be non-sanctioned? Are you planning to continue one-rounders?

All will be sanctioned except the last one which is City of Fountains.

We will have our next one rounder in March (Possible Feb) at Blue Springs

No Old Settlers on the list?

I am not sure if Old Settlers will be on the KC Mini Series yet.  I will be hosted on the usual weekend.  I am waiting to get some information on that event since I don't physically run it.  I am guessing more than likely it will be added though.

Old Settlers is officially on the KC Mini Series now, so that now puts the series to 8 events.

The top 40% of the players who attend 3 of the 7 events will be awarded an end of season bonus payout.

Is the top 40% per division or all am players?  Because if it's all am players then you are looking at mostly advanced players and a couple of intermediate players and maybe a sandbagger or two...lol.  Just curious what your thinking was on this.  Thanks

Paradise Diamond - May 18th, 2013
Mighty Mo - June 23rd, 2013
Midwest Amateur Championships - August 3rd
Old Settlers Open - August 31st
Tree Love Classic - Sept 14th
City of Fountains - Nov 3rd

I will get the KC Mini Series Points Updated this week and let everyone know where they are.  I am trying to come up with a way so everyone can see the spreadsheet better.  I will also create a KC Mini Series Facebook page soon.

Next event on the KC Mini Series is the Mighty Mo on June 23rd, starting with a $207 Ace Pot.

I also created a dedicated Facebook page for the KC Mini Series

https://www.facebook.com/KansasCityMiniSeries (https://www.facebook.com/KansasCityMiniSeries)

Its in the works but this should be easier to keep things current with the series.

when can we expect an update including the mighty mo? Just curious...Understand it may be a tedious undertaking. No hurries or worries.

The most current standings as of Mighty Mo.  If your entire row (name and numbers) are highlighted red, than you are currently qualified for the end of year rewards.  If just your numbers are highlighted, than you have enough events to qualify, just not enough points yet.

So it appears that only one Advanced grand master will make the year end rewards?

Although I have played all events (granted some not very well), I don't have enough points to qualify?????

As of now only the two have qualified.  There are still 4 events to go.

The KC Mini Series is now up-to-date through the Old Settlers Open.  Two more events to go

Tree Love Classic - Sept 14th
City of Fountains - Nov 3rd

If you name is highlighted, then that means as of today you are in the payout.  Remember the top 40% (within each division) of those who make three events will get a bonus payout at the end of the season

There will be a few more Sunday events because im going to have split days on a few events.  Ex. Int/rec on one day and adv/pro on another.  Most of the events are B Tiers, is there a specific reason you would rather have them as C Tiers?

Lee's Summit P&R are somewhat more particular in how they would like groups to work with them as opposed to some of the other P&R departments in the area.  For example, when we meet with them to schedule the work day this fall and we asked about future tournaments they indicated that the shelters would need to be rented the day of the tournament.  They cost $80 and 100 per day per shelter (there are two).  Basically, it would cost an additional $180 to run the tournament.  I don't know if that would be for every tournament or what the specifics are, but that might be part of the reason as to why more tournaments are not ran at Legacy.  I expect when the Bluebird series was out there, that they waived that requirement since the Bluebird was part of the  Missouri Parks and Recreation Association, which they are a member/part of.

Recently Eric Eastwood has made some traction out in LS  after contacting some other folks.  we sometimes forget how lucky we are to have the support of so many parks departments in KC so when a department is not as accessible as others, we see that as being difficult.

Any thoughts on talking with any of the local ball golf courses to see if they are interested in a safari tournament? Seems with DD's track record and contacts in Emporia it could be a viable possibility.

I've considered this with Tomahawk Golf Course in Shawnee, actually very close to SMP.

Bill Maasen, the Superintendent of Golf Courses for P&R is the guy to go to for stuff at SMP, and he's really into disc golf as a whole. He plays occasionally and his son Brett is a KCFDC Member.

Actually, Tomahawk was the course I had in mind when I made the suggestion! Great tracks of land, fun elevation, rolling fairways, and could you imagine teeing off on the top of the cliff of 9 down to that green below??!!?!  ;D

I have a Golf course I am in contact with, and have been for many years, who is interested in us having a Disc Golf tournament held on it. It would be inexpensive and fun. This course actually sets up nicely for Disc Golf.

Originally when I approached them it was for the Ball Golf/Disc Golf tournament Brian Gammon and I use to hold. Although, Brian hasn't been around in some time and our event died off. I would be interested in either bringing it back, or doing a something just Disc Golf related but it wouldn't be until Spring or Fall.

legacy is a good course, with a little paint it could be great enough to piss off the pros - nothing like added OB. I think it is a perfect course to split a pool off from the youngle too - saving us all some hassle at say an oversold eastern front. and I think <ask tank or a director> that kcfdc could help out with the shelter rental, like kcfdc and dgw or dd present the eastern front.

I like this idea! PHill and Young have more in common as far as how they play. I like Legacy and do believe it needs more events held there but I feel that Young and PHill would play better together. Let's bring back the Eastern Front!!!  ;D
