Dog Daze of Summer PDGA League at SMP updates
« on: May 10, 2015, 09:11:30 PM »
A summer PDGA league at SMP has been approved--it's the regular Tuesday night league, it's just now it will be a PDGA league.  What does that mean?

Instead of $5.00 for league, it's $6.00 for league for KCFDC members (which includes the PDGA mandated one dollar and the ace fund).  $7.00 for non-KCFDC members.

It also means that i ask you to abide by PDGA rules--the differences are that i'd ask you to mark your discs and not flip them, hole out instead of using "gimmes," and try to avoid foot faults especially while putting.  There will never be a two meter rule.

Why do it?

It is an inexpensive way to get PDGA rated rounds.

It adds a bit more competition (more on that in a minute).

If you're not a PDGA member, you can see what your rated rounds would be (unofficially) if you were a member--there is no additional fee for non-PDGA members.

Ratings are one way to compare yourself to other golfers and see where you belong should you decide to engage in tournament play.

It's a way to get points to qualify for Worlds, if you're into that kind of thing.  As an FYI, for PDGA purposes, there will be TWO divisions--advanced and professional.  It's better for points.  What does that mean?  That means for PDGA purposes, you will be an amateur or a pro.  If you're an am that generally plays open in league--keep doing it!  I will still list you as an am for PDGA purposes.  I will ask you for your PDGA numbers and status for PDGA purposes.

How do ratings work?  Please see the PDGA FAQ on ratings at http://www.pdga.com/faq -- also, that FAQ answers questions about PDGA leagues, too, if you're unfamiliar.

I will say, 5 "propagators" are needed each league night so that preview ratings (unofficial) are available when i update the PDGA site.
Generally speaking, we have had at least 5 people that count as propagators at league.  Propagators are those whose rating is in BOLD on the PDGA site.
Hopefully that continues and we get a few more here and there.

So in an effort to be transparent, you might be thinking, where does that extra dollar go?
50 cents goes to the PDGA.  50 cents goes to me to do with whatever i'd like to do.
What i'd like to do:  First, pay myself back the $25 to register the league, which i have already paid the PDGA for.  Second, the remainder of the money will go to payouts.

The payouts will be based on a "best of" system.

There will be 5 divisions offered:

1.  Open
2.  Advanced Masters
3.  Advanced
4.  Intermediate
5.  Women

For each division (ignore what division for PDGA purposes--i mean league division here), i will have a payout for the winners of each division.  The payout scale will be similar to the payout scale for KCFDC league nights.

The winner will be determined by who has (1) competed in 5 PDGA rounds and (2) who has the highest average ratings (not scores) for 5 rounds.  If a person plays 8 rounds, then the top 5 average rated rounds would be used and 3 would be dropped (preliminary ratings will be used, not final).  I am using ratings to help equalize course conditions, set up, etc.  The payout will be based on the number of participants in the division.  It will be a 100% payout after the initial fee is recouped.

For example, say in Open we had 10 players play 5+ rounds, and say we had 100 total rounds played by open players.  that means $50 (100 rounds x $.50) less roughly $5 (for PDGA registration) would go to the payout.  For 10 players, there is a 33% payout, so i would pay the top three players of the 10 that played 5 rounds.  That payout would be roughly $20 for first, $15 for second, and $10 for third.

Of note:  these cash payouts are not reported to the PDGA, so it does NOT change your status as an Am if you accept cash payouts.

If you have questions, please let me know.  I will try and come up with an answer. The URL for the PDGA league is:

Submit the receipt Mike, the Club will pay the $25.  That shouldn't come out of your pocket, and then you can figure out the $$$.  I used it for the Tree Love Fund.

I chose to pay for it myself.  Left over money this year I'm paying for the course coordinators to play league for free as a thank you.  Last year, I bought 2 cases of beer and some ice tea at the end of the season.

Week 1 SMP PDGA league

The "Gold" setting.  Attached is a link to a "caddy book" of sorts.  At least I hope the link works.  It is an approximation of how I envision the course for June 16.

This looks rough. I love it. Always like to be challenged. Will it all still be par 3?

Hole 3 is a par 4 set up.  The rest are challenging par 3.  Well challenging to me anyways.

Awesome. That's the one I was hoping would be par 4. Love the challenge.

Dog Daze of Summer PDGA League at SMP starts tonight, 10 week league!

http://www.pdga.com/tour/event/21025

$6 for KCFDC members, $7 for non-KCFDC members (includes optional ace fund)

Tonight’s set up, my take on SMP “Gold.”  Holes 2, 4, 7, 8, and 9 have temporary pads.  Regular pads to be used if course is wet; I will call that before tee off.  All tall grass is OB (except any that might be on hole 3).

1.       Long (450’)

2.       Long (466’ or 545’)

3.       Temp basket on island (588’)

4.       Long (381’ or 495’ (measured along fairway, not as a bird flies))

5.       Short (215’ island hole)

6.       Long (331’)

7.       Long (442’ or 495’)

8.       Middle–long placement needs repair (369’ or 500’)

9.       Long (520’ or 655’)

10.   Long (465’)

11.   Long (494’)

12.   Long (445’) with mando right of first tree on left (marked)

13.   Long (424’)

14.   Long (417’)

15.   Long (305’)

16.   Long (416’)

17.   Long (400’)

18.   Long (382’)

Course plays at 7510 from permanent pads (par 55—only hole 3 is a par 4); 8022 when the 5 temp pads are included (par 57, with holes 2, 3, and 9 playing as par 4s)

So 14 were out on a misty then sunny evening at Shawnee Mission Park for the first night of the Dog Daze of Summer PDGA League. Thanks everyone for coming out! Gold setting, everything long except 5, playing to a temp on the island on 3, with all tall grass OB. Par 55. We didn't play the temp pads due to the mist. The course was set at 7510 feet regardless.

Ben Lutz 66

Advanced Old Guys

CJ Connell 75 $4 KC Cash
Aaron Finn 75 $4 KC Cash (owe)
