KANZA KRUSH presented by INNOVA CHAMPION DISCS

First Maverick DG tournament in 2016.

Registration opens 1/1/16 at 12 Noon.

http://dgscene.com/KanzaKrush2016

Two rounds of 18 holes at Kanza Park.  Long and Short Tees will be utilized. Rec Men, Rec Women, Intermediate Women, all Juniors and Advanced Senior Grandmaster will use short tees.

PDGA Sanctioned C/B-Tier Tournament. PDGA Membership is not required, but a $10 fee will apply for non-members. PDGA membership / fee does not apply to Junior divisions.

$47 - Open
$42 - Pro Women, Master, Grandmaster
$32 - All Advanced Divisions
$27 - All Intermediate Divisions
$21 - All Recreational Divisions
$17 - Junior 1 & 3, Boys and Girls

In the registration process, if there is not a division open that you would like to see open, let me know, and I'll open it.  However, if a minimum of 4 participants are not in the division, there is a 90% likelihood it will be condensed down to the next appropriate division.

$5 - Dynamic Discs Ace / CTP fund:
Instead of a cash payout, a DD Ranger Bag will be given for the Ace Fund. If no ace is hit, a CTP will be done after second round to determine winner. If more than 1 ace, then only those players will do CTP.  When 41 players opt for Fund, a second bag will be given.

More information will be provided later regarding player pack, any modified layouts, etc.  As we did last year, the tee boxes will be expanded to allow players to use the small triangle concrete markers, or the grass to the side.

Player Pack for all Ams. Disc selections will be announced later after Innova order confirmation.

There will be a CTP or Win your Card, Win a Prize. Prize item yet to be determined.

Edit - 12/30/15 - 10:12 updated poster
Edit - 01/01/16 - 10:24 updated tee length descriptions
Edit - 01/01/16 - 11:10 added ACE/CTP Fund description

Is the minimum of 4 per division correct?

Thank you for your question.  I find going by the PDGA rules to be the easiest to clarrify situations.  It takes the monkey off the back of the TD so to speak.

Quote
J.) A Tournament Director may, by giving adequate public notice, restrict the divisions offered. Absent such notice, the Tournament Director shall offer for competition any division which has four or more players that are eligible and wishing to compete. Tournament Directors may offer divisions with less than four players at their discretion

http://www.pdga.com/rules/competition-manual/section-2-division-qualifications/21-general

For men and women divisions, the least common denominator will always be available, even if one.

For instance - if there is only one male Pro player, then Open will be available.  In order to have a Master Pro, Grandmaster Pro, etc., 4 or more will need to be playing in order to open it.

For women, the same applies.  If there is only one female Pro player, then Women Open is the division that is available.  In order to create a Female Master Pro division, 4 or more will need to be playing in that division in order to open it.

For Pro divisions, it is much more 'by the book' as the players are playing for cash.  If you want to play for cash, you kind of need to play with the big dogs so to speak and not be protected outside of the rules.

For Ams, the basic rules apply.  As the TD discretion allows, I may and do occassionaly allow a division to be available if less than 4 players are in it.  In a few circumstances, I have allowed an amateur division with only one female, or one junior.  I once opened up a Male Legend division for a 74 year old, because as the TD I thought it was the best thing to do.  These choices were made to encourage those divisions to grow.

Let me know if you need me to clarrify further or a specific situation.  I'll do the best I can.

Sounds good.

I always see it posted as 3 or more and thought that was the rule.  Interesting to see it is 4.  Learn something new everyday.

Thanks for the clarification and link.

Not positive, but I think at one time it may have been 3 and was changed to 4 maybe last year?  Not sure.  Falls under that TD discretion that a division could be opened for 3 if the TD chooses to do so.

Yea, I figured the same thing.  Maybe a change was made recently, but I found the 2011 version and it states the same thing.  Which was prior to me playing disc golf.

http://www.pdga.com/files/PDGA_Competition_Manual_2011.pdf

It clearly states that it is at TD discretion to allow fewer, so it was just interesting to me.  Maybe I should actually read the competition manual rules.  lol.  Reminds me of when I learned that OB is almost always on or over.

In addition to normal player pack (for Ams), ALL players, PRO AND AM, that pre-register by Thursday, March 3rd will receive a brand new release from Innova Discs - the Makani. The Makani is not even approved yet by the PDGA, or even on the Innova website it is so new.

Innova's description of it:

Quote
MAKANI / NEW!
The Makani is a fun new lightweight large diameter disc for
all sports. The Makani was designed with versatility in mind.
Whether you want to play a casual game of catch on the beach, a
pick-up game of Ultimate in the park, or even a round of disc golf,
the Makani is ready to fly for you.
Diameter: 24.1 cm
Makani Sport disc 140 GRAMS

So, what is it? If you know what a Te Moko is, it is *incredibly* similiar in mold, without the ridges on top that the Te Moko has. Unlike the Te Moko, the Makani light weight, so it is more suited for playing catch with a person or possibly a dog. Sometimes I see players playing catch before rounds to warm up. The few I weighed were right at 144 grams.

Why the Makani?

When I approached Innova about being the title sponsor for this event, I requested a player pack item that was a bit unusual. Something other than the typical golf disc, or shirt.

Lots of pictures can be found here:

Registration is here:

Am Player Pack disc choices are:

Flat Top Pro KC Roc
Champion Metal Flack Destroyer
Champ MF Firebird
Champ MF Sidewinder
Star Firebird - some with nice swirls
Star Roc3 - some with nice swirls

Available for purchase or $5 upcharge over normal entry:
Champ Glow Eagle, Leopard3, or Destroyer
Color Champ Glow Destroyer, Leopard3, Boss

"USAF, Makani, and Firebirds, OH MY!" ;)

A MP tourney aka "Must Play"indeed.

I still a'wonder about this upcoming "hobble, hobble, hobble" tourney. Tom has a gun?

Does PDGA have a conceal 'n carry clause? ;)
