The gender, women, is the interest group, :) at 51% (W) vs 49% (M).  But in context of the disc golf community, JoeT is correct. At 8% of PDGA members, women are a special interest group.  I personally hope that percentage continues to climb, because it is sadly low.  Just curious Jack, what are the club membership numbers for women?

In January, when the 2016 event came onto our radar, Jack reached out to me for my opinion about adding women back into the mix.  The crux of my statement to him, Joe H and Zeke was that I don't think any particular group should be entitled to spots on the teams.  I continued that if the captains and TD felt there are enough women truly interested, in the event, that each side would have several players battling for spots, then and only then should they consider adding women back to the fold.  I believe Joe's proposal that spots must be earned by qualifying against others, that those spots are not just handed out to fill a roster requirement, reflects that opinion.

Do I think masters or older men will stop playing disc golf because they are not guaranteed spots on a team?  No.
Do I think the population growth of women's disc golf in the area will cease if they are not guaranteed spots in the KCTC?  No.
Do I think including women in the KCTC is the right thing to do under the right circumstances? Yes.

That all said, Nova, it's club members like you, that put in many hours of their own time to help with club activities.  Those that make the club and its events the successes they are, in my opinion, are the only ones deserving of special consideration for spots in the KCTC.  (another KevMo exception reference.)

Isn't he the best?  I know many of you know him, but he has done sooooooooo many great things for the KCFDC it's still inspiring to me, as well as forcing encouraging his lovely wife to help as well.  Great people is something we are blessed with in KC for certain!

.....

7:08-Rick Rothstein, Treasurer. Treasury and membership reports. Instituting an annual membership beginning January 2017. This will simplify things although it may present challenges. Means that next year, Club Championships will be busy with dues being paid. 389 active members as of tonight. #1911 is the latest number issued. 202 in MO 183 in KS.  KCMO is most common city of residence, Olathe most common zip code (both the 66061 and 66062 zip codes). Average age of member is 37 years old. Max Hilters oldest member at 77 years, Sloane Winkelbauer youngest, at 4 years old. Last count, 10-13% of membership are women. .....

If asked, I could provide a list of women whose contribution to the club vastly exceeds my own. However, thank you.  :D

To simplify matters, it turns out I qualify with no exceptions needed. The rule was to be a KCFDC member and to live within a 50-mile radius from the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers, right? I'm in there.

The big thing about the location rule was to not bring in "ringers" this was to be active local members of the KCFDC for the event.  I would say you are on that list regardless of the distance rule.

Kudos though for reading the initial "mando rule"  ;D

Heh. Nice.  Yes, you're in range for this event, Nova. I remember doing that Google maps work to figure out how to get Amanda "in" for East side year one.  I didn't mean to imply that you were out and would have to get a KevMo exemption.  I was calling you out as a valued volunteer and community member. As such, part of the only group I feel should ever be considered for any sort of special treatment.

     Hello all...

With leagues scheduled I've been able to schedule qualifiers for the east side; they are as follows:

April 17th City of fountains 3 spots

April 19th old pike league 6:00 pm (will be singles instead of double that night) 2 spots

April 25th Cliff drive league (i know it shows every other week.. trust me the 25th is a qualifier at cliff league or not) 2 spots

May 10th Wilbur young 6pm 2 spots

may 17th swope 6pm 1 spot

may 21st paradise diamond 3 spots

may 24th swope 1 spot

june 9th last qualifier Water works league 2 spots

** I HAVE ONLY HAD WOMAN SHOW INTEREST IN THE EVENT. AS IT STAND THERE WILL NOT BE A SPOT FOR A WOMAN ON THE TEAM.**
Ladies, please message me if you are interested in the event. If I don't have at least three women show interest who will show up to a qualifier and play the full event by april 31st I will schedule and plan accordingly (sound fair Joe?).

Sounds fair.

C'mon Missouri Ladies!  Kansas women are counting on you.

Ps. Zeke, you should clarify that (2 spots + ties) is how it works, unless you plan on playing off after rounds.  And if ties are counted you may fill before your final event qualifiers.

Kansas (West side) Men's Qualifiers include:

Tuesday, April 19th - SMP League - Kaleb Martin and Kevin Zane

Monday, May 9th - Lakeside(Olathe) League - 2 spots + ties

Friday, May 13th - Wyco League - 2 spots + ties

Wednesday, May 25th - Rosedale League - If needed, 2-3 spots at most.

4 Captains Picks - June 1st

Qualified Players:
Joe Hesting
Arturo Villareal
Chris Clemens
Isaac Heinen
Cooper Arnold
Peter Bures
Marc Wisbey

Holding 1 spot for a Kansas woman, if Missouri gets enough women to show interest.  By the end of April we shall have an answer, and then I will get with the Kansas women for the best night to hold a qualifier.

Zeke and I have agreed.  The Diva tourney will be the qualifier for both East and West women.  Lowest score from both sides will qualify(of women that have expressed interest).  Once the lowest score is determined and that lady is on the team, we will then take the second best score as an alternate(if that alternate has an open weekend to fill in on June 18,19).
eg. - If the #1 qualifier cannot play Sunday afternoon of the 19th, then we will choose an alternate that can fill in for that time, even if it is not the second best score.  It does us no good to have an alternate that cannot fill in where needed.

Thanks for your patience ladies!  Good Luck and have a fun Diva weekend!

So teams will look like this:

STARTERS:
15 Men
1 Woman

Bench:
4 Men
1 Woman

16 total will play in each round, with 1 woman mandatory.
