Jack,
Got bored during the second and third quarter of the big game last night and got started on possible art ideas and concepts for the Worlds stuff you asked for. The creative process usually takes awhile after the initial start...it only gets better from here. Please visit www.danweinert.com/2009_Proofs and let me know if you would like me to expand on any idea. I have looked at the logos from the last 3 or 4 years for ideas of what to do and what not to do.

Comments?

Directions?

53 looks and NO comments??? Either that's good or bad. Don't be shy gentlemen...I am just getting warmed up here. Got a couple of secret entries but I wanted to hear some comments from the gallery first.

My design goals are as follows-
1. Make it reproducable in full color, foil and single color.
2. Interesting and appealing.
3. Visually pleasing.
4. Show KC as host in some subtle graphic way.
5. Fun and exciting.

Nice website! So far the concept images include the following programs-

1. Illustrator
2. Corel Draw
3. Quark
4. InDesign
5. Photoshop

Then published to the web via Dreamweaver.

My surprise entries will include a expansion of #6 and a total new direction that I am totally excited about.

Thanks! Maybe we could get together and collaborate on a design. I will start working on some vector golfer illustrations, I love doing this stuff!

Gunnar, what can you tell me about the kids festival that is on your site?  I teach elementary PE and have a club that might be interested in performing.  I have a circus skills club with over 60 members and a unicycle club with 30+ members.  We look to do performances outside of school.  My kids meet twice a week and are super talented.  Can you get me some more info about this event?

Thanks,

Dan I like #5  as far as image. Lettering color should be black to stand-out better against blue & white background. Maybe put a little disc golf basket where KC is.

Glad to see people thinking about art and design. Creating designs that are original and speak of the event is not an easy process. Please keep in mind that there will likely be more than one design and that they will be used in different media. For example, there will be hotstamped discs for sure, and likely full color discs as well. Please visit http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/customdiscs.html and http://discraft.com/art.html to learn more about art specs. Discs will be used both for player packages and in small runs for fundraising. (While at the Innova and Discraft sites, check out their fund-raising opportunities.) In addition to discs, there will be tee shirts (full color disc designs can be duplicated here) and probably embroidered golf shirts and caps. Embroidery design is slightly different again. Another slightly different design would be what I'll call more of a corporate logo that would be used on letterhead, sponsorship proposals, etc.

As to the design itself, please note that the use of the globe, while enticing, has kind of become almost a cliche because of over-use. My take on the 2009 Worlds is that is not just the PDGA Worlds, but it's the KANSAS CITY Worlds. So, I'm partial to designs that incorporate elements that reflect life in KC or its heritage. For example, the Iowa Worlds (both of them) used agricultural motifs among their logos. Nashville used music as a theme.

Please note that Jack Lowe and John Chapman are the head guys for the pro-am worlds, and no doubt have a time-table to get moving. Emails or phone calls directly to them about the worlds is a superior method of communciating that talking to them out here. I know I often don't have time to respond out here in a timely manner, but do try to keep my email box clean.

Jack, I was reading though the new magazine, and something about the worlds caught my eye.  Are we holding Pro/Am concurrently, or back to back?

They're saying that because this year MI is doing the same thing.  Back to back meaning Kalamazoo, MI in 2008, then KC in 2009.
