Brock Barrett

jlowe just called to tell me that we lost brock barrett last night to a fireworks accident.
brock was a good man who was raised with a disc in his hand. he always had a good word for me and was a pleasure to play with or just shoot the sh1t with.
he will be greatly missed.

Thanks Mark, I was just getting ready to send something here as well.

Brock, was the tall lanky bleach blond side arm thrower that was always giving it back as much as he took it.  He generally had a great attitude for disc golf, and was always someone that you could find to play a round with dang near everyday.

This is once again a sad day, as he was with his family and suffered a fireworks accident that eventually took him from us.  I understand in some conversations that he will be creamated and part of his ashes are to be given to Rosedale.  We will do what we can to make this event a great one for Brock, and his family.

My sincere thanks for getting to know him, getting to watch him grow, and my heartfelt sympathies go to his family and friends.  Life is too short, and Brock was too young to leave us all.  I hope and pray that he is in a better place and will be missed by many in the disc golf community.

thanks for posting the info on Broch. Yesterday was a pretty rough day, we drank a few for Broch over at Guastello's house. Broch certainly loved to do some crazy s**t, and IMO he went out doing something he liked to do. People who knew Broch will always remember the bond he had with his dog Zeek. Those two were awesome together.

Broch was really good golfer, and he would have occassional bad days and quit halfway through the round. We'd give him grief for it, and whenever I would be having a bad round I'd say "I'm goin home," to which the reply was always "ok Broch."

I'm gonna miss giving him grief. I'd love to see maybe a Barret Memorial Tournament at Rosedale, or something like that.

I just got off the phone with one of Brock's friends.  Brock's mother had asked him to contact the club and let us know that family and friends will be at Rosedale this Sunday starting around 11am.  Not sure what is going on, but I guess it will be a memorial picnic sort of thing. 

I asked about funeral/wake services and he said they would be Sat., but he was unsure of the location and time.  When he calls me back with that info I will post it here.

Saturday memorial services are 3-5pm at http://www.johnsoncountychapel.com/ I believe....I am awaiting to see the Obit on the paper and post for sure.  I would like to have us do something for the family and related expenses at the Sunburn Open this weekend, a general donation of $10/person would go a long way.  I am sure that Brock would have been playing in the event, so it saddens me even more.

I remember Brock from several years ago...I always enjoyed his company on our Rosedale card, several times.  RIP, Brock...we'll miss you.
I'm unable to play the SBO, Saturday...how do we contribute?

RIP Brock, didnt know him that well but played a few rounds with him. Seemed like a good guy. Hopefully someday we can have a memorial tournament for him.

A loss to the Ultimate Frisbee Community

Our prayers are extended to Mike "Bear" Barrett, he has touched many of our lives and has suffered a great loss.

His son Brock Barrett past away July 3rd in a fireworks accident at his home. Brock was a friend to both the ultimate frisbee community, as well as the disc golf community.

Kansas City Ultimate, has set up a Memorial Fund to assist with costs associated with the wake, funeral and medical costs.

I think about Brock a lot since he passed. We went to ele. school, middle and highschool.

I was sitting here and felt like he was near me. I know this is going to sound crazy to most everyone.....

But I heard him talking to me. He told me "tell my mom I love her (pause) and my dad and brother.

So I hope they read this. I typed this for you Brock. I LOVE YOU. I miss you!

I didn't know him but I do pause at his memorial on #12 down under each time we play. I stopped there this morning and thought, my how time flies, it was over a year and a half....
