Prairie Center Distances
« on: February 28, 2008, 02:00:51 PM »
I barrowed my father-in-law's GPS Nav to try to figure out if it could be used for anything. This one was made by Bushnell so it was a little bit more difficult to use than a Garmin. The guy on playdg.com measured the distances with a garmin, but that was quite a few years ago and we have made a lot of changes since then. I agree with a lot of his measurements, except for a few which I will recheck. These GPS divices are not designed to be used at this small of a scale and the accuracy rating is about 10-20'. I checked all these placements three different ways and these are the averages rounded to the nearest increment of 5.

We are going to need to get signs made up for '09 Worlds and I figured this would be a good start.

I'll check these against what we have for the current holes.  Obviously there's some new placements and new hole configurations that we'll need distances for.  Thanks for doing this.

The club does have a laser range finder we use to shoot distances.  It's works better than GPS, because GPS is only accurate to 3m (10 feet) at best.  Where the laser falls short is if we don't have line-of-sight. There's plusses and minuses to everything, I guess.

Missouri....our state animal is sterile, our state rock is lead, and we elected a dead guy to the U.S. Senate.  Of course, he was the best candidate.

We will need to shoot those distances with the laser range finder, because I wasn't always getting consistant results. There are placements that aren't visible on about every pad and it will be worse when the trees green up. Let me know if I can help you with that.

Thanks,
Bryan

The Range Finder works great with line of site and a person in a white t-shirt standing behind the basket.  Otherwise you can get line of site on the white t-shirt, hold that spot then shoot again to the basket.  Worked pretty good last time I used it.

andy, i figured for you there were just two distances.

1. reachable with a destroyer
2. unreachable with a destroyer
