SMP League Night
« on: March 07, 2008, 01:29:52 PM »
Are there any interested parties in league out at SMP?  Any other folks work in the JO and have a great fondness for this wild piece of land?  I think the question was posed and not answered earlier.

Dirk, what says the CC?

I vote for Wednesday, as that is the one and only day that works for me.  The BTD is a selfish prick.

Let us all chime in and figure out a good day.

I think Dirk is wanting to get the course finished right now, and doesn't plan to put a lot of time into planning a league.  On the other hand, if someone wanted to run a league, I'm sure both he and the EC would be more than willing to entertain that notion.

Yes, my priorities lie with continuing to develop the course. tee pads, signage, fairways to clear, trash bins, ongoing park staff items, ect...

However we do have the opportunity to run a league, so  if someone wants to commit for the season speak up.  I think Tuesday is the earmarked day thats been discussed for SMP,  In order not to step on any other KS leagues (Prairie, Rosie, Wyco).

I simply do not have enough free time to be able to pledge to handle league for a season.  Also, while I agree that Tuesdays make the most sense, that day isn't open for me at all.

I will still continue to get up there whenever I can.  I got workmates to join me for holes 1-4 Monday over lunch.  Good times.

Dirk, is there a thread that details SMP priorities?  I was thinking about a big bulletin board somewhere near the practice basket.

Any update on a league night out at SMP?

Tuesday would be great, I might be able to get two others pretty consistently.....

I live in Parkhurst which is the development next to the Park.  My wife and I frequent the park and the DG course.  There are 2 others here in the neighborhood that play as well.  I also have another couple of folks that would like to start up something.

If someone would like to run a league out there, I think it would be great.  The biggest reason that no one is running one currently was that no one could commit to being out there for a long period of time.

Our "leagues" are really more like small weekly tournaments. The club typical summer weekly "league" is played as singles. A club member pays $5. Out of the $5, $1.50 goes to the club treasury, $1 goes to the course ACE fund, and $2.50 goes into the nights payout.

During the daylight savings time frame, there are "dark-seekers" that play various GLOW minis through the week, which for the most part are not club affiliated. Additionally, on Saturdays, there is a club weekly mini in Olathe (random draw doubles) at 11:00 am, and a club weekly mini at Rosedale Downunder (random draw doubles) at 12:30 pm. On Sunday there is a club weekly mini in Pleasant Hill, Missouri (random draw doubles) at 12:30.

I'd suggest, if there is enough interest, that a SMP weekly club mini (random draw doubles?)could be played during the daylight savngs period (Winter) on Sundays, say at 1:00, and during summer perhaps on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings at 6:00. I think it would be kewl to keep it a random draw doubles mini year round, as we currently only have P Hill that does that.

I have run leagues quite a bit, and if the course coordinator and exec commitee would like to get one started, and there is enough participation, I would run it. I would like to see the entry and club taxes to be similar to the Downunder mini, which is $10 entry, with $1 to the ACE fund, $2 to the club treasury, and $7 to the payout.

What sayeth the masses?

Downunder only takes $1 for the club and $1 for Ace...so $8 payout

Thursday or Sunday sounds okay...

But it is on the same side (Southern part) of KC so to me Thursday makes more sense.

Whatever happened to Blue Valley on Sat or Sun?  I would think that would go over well in the winter since people wouldn't dry up so quick.
