Trying to start a league at work
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:20:44 PM »
Well, I've decided to go ahead and attempt to start a league at the GM Fairfax plant where I work. I figure with 2,500+ employees, there's bound to be some takers. I know of about 6 or 7 guys including myself who play, so I already have a nice head start. Just thought I'd share with you all the flier I made up to try to spread the word. I tried to make it as appealing to a bunch of autoworkers as possible. :-X ::) :D

Whadya think?

Looks like fun. I wish you success and hope you get some new players introduced to the game.

I do want to point out that your map shows WyCo in the wrong location though. It should be West of I-435 and a bit further South.  Pretty much near K-7 and I-70. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Aw, cripes. I marked it at the lake, didn't I? Thanks for pointing that out. I'll be sure to change it before I print them off.

Like your map.....could you add Pleasant Hill to it too?

Like your idea for a work league, hope you're successful!

Lefty2, do a Google image search for "disc golf discs flying". Should be the first result.

dclabe, I don't think the map covers Pleasant Hill. Besides, I'm not sure if we'll be playing those courses that are out on the fringe of the metro area. PH, PC, and WYCO aren't centrally located like the other courses. I was just hoping to answer a couple newbie questions with that map as far as where courses are found in the area.

Actually Alcohol is not allowed in any of the KCMO parks, we have a contract with the KCMO that allows us to sell alcohol, therefore administer it but for the average person, alcohol is not permitted in parks.

Most parks are free to play, but many are nominal fees of $1-$5 to play.

Disc golf can be enjoyed from ages 4-94, and the only thing that you need is a $7 disc, and a desire to meet great and unique people.

Just a couple of suggestions on the wording, otherwise looks great.  Based on this Map, there is no way that PH would make it, the sign removed would still not have enough space for the location.

Otherwise, what a great initiative.  This is inspirational, and cool!

I had read last night in one of the brochures that it was available to people ages 4-90, so I thought that I would cut off at 94, I am not sure who would code the 95+ division, but if Pete Shive is still playing then, all sorts of records would be broken.....

Jack, I just assumed that with the way so many folks chug beer out in the open that it was okay. I mean, the folks who gather out at Swope on Sundays are drinking beer like crazy and the cops just roll right by. Probably something that's not heavily enforced unless it leads to other problems. My fellow autoworkers are well versed in their drinking and can handle it without creating chaos, I hope. ;D

that's cuz the Sunday beer people are discreet at swope.  I've never seen anyone hassled at swope if you try to be cool about it.

I thought all ks parks outlawed alcohol.

In Kansas it's a city thing I believe.  We were asked to put our beverages away last week at PC, but that is a first in a long time.

Descretion is key!

I'm pretty sure KCK is okay unless specifically banned as in signs at some parking lots at WyCo Lake Park. If it isn't legal at WyCo the rangers have certainly been cutting us some slack. I've sipped on a cold one while talking to a ranger that stopped to visit by #1 before.

I think it would be a good idea to make sure of what the local laws are and make sure the info is available to local and traveling disc golfers so no one gets caught off guard with a fine or whatever. I'll see if I can track down the official info on KCK parks and report back. Discretion is indeed the better part of valor in most cases though no matter what the laws.
