Pins pulled on holes #11, #12, #13, #14
« on: September 03, 2008, 12:55:15 PM »
Scott George called to inform me that at the Mayor's request the Pins have been pulled on holes #11, #12, #13, #14.  Seems that some disc golfers had a vocal discussion with the "friendly" neighbors on the Southeast portion of the course.  They went in to the Mayor and complained.....they claimed that Savanah Land was upset also.  I'm working with Scott to see if we can redesign part of the course to alleviate the problem.  I'm not aware of any problems with Savanah Land (I've talked with the owner) so hopefully we won't lose those holes.  Anyway, I will also try to talk to the Mayor.

I think those neighbors are more upset about people disturbing the peace and quiet that probably existed before the course was put in.

It reminds me of the Pottberg Park neighborhood situation.  It was probably super peaceful out there before the course and now the people have to get used to TRAFFIC and PEOPLE!!! oh gasp!

What is this going to do for League and the upcoming Afternoon D-Lite with Afterglow?

I met with the Mayor Terry Wilson and Scott George late yesterday afternoon.  The Mayor said that he is in full support of the disc golf course, but he's convinced that the situation with the neighbors across from #11 & #12 will not get any better.  He wants Scott and I to come up with a redesign "thats as good as the current layout" and asked Scott to make it a priority so that it does not impact scheduled events.  It was agreed that we could utilize the area north of #15 as part of the redesign.   I will meet Scott today at the course (1:30) to start the redesign (Caleb, Brandon, and I went out last night to brainstorm some options).  My preliminary assessment is that we will replace existing holes #10, #11, and #12 (with holes north of #15), while moving the pin for #9 to the north (to shorten the walk to #13).  After Scott and I meet, I will post the results of our redesign discussion.

Also, Scott had contacted the owner of Savanah Land to verify that he did not have any issues with holes #13 & #14 (they will be reinstalled today).

All in all a positive discussion.  I was concerned that it was a knee-jerk reaction (to remove the pins), but I think they were just trying to keep the issue from escalating.

If things go good with Scott, we will still have league on Sunday (probably with temp pads & pins on 3-4 holes).

Meeting went well with Scott this afternoon.  He approved the redesign as follows:
  • #9 change to use old #11 pin (320')
  • old #13 becomes #10
  • old #14 becomes #11
  • old #15 becomes #12
  • #13 will be directly north of #12 with the teepad in the woods shooting north to the top of the hill across from the shelter(270' uphill - OB on north & east)
  • #14 will be directly north of the shelter with the teepad next to the road shooting north down to the big oak(320' downhill - OB on north west & east)
  • #15 will be directly south of #14 pin with the teepad on the east side of the road shooting south to telephone pole (450' slightly uphill - OB on south)
  • #16 will be directly south of #15 pin with the teepad on the south side of the road shooting east to the pin(225' - OB on north)
  • #17 will utilize old #16's teepad shooting south with the pin on the southeast side of big oak with the bark missing (420' - OB on south)
  • old #10, #11, #12, and #17 teepads will be reused on the new holes where possible

If anyone can bring a portable basket, we could play some of these new holes Sunday during league.

Thats pretty close! ;D

12 has a new alternate pin position in the woods on the right that I didn't mention.
13's pin position is closer to the road in the shade.
14's pin position is behind the big oak (also may put one in on the right across the road just before the big trees(Scott suggested that :o)).
15's tee pad will be closer to the road and about 50' behind the tree, its pin position is just to the right of the big tree by the road.

I'll bring my basket Sunday.  I'll be there around 12:15 or so.

Scott will handle the pin placements.  Caleb C., Brandon, Lance, and I are planning on finising #12 alternate placement (in the woods), and clearing the fairway for new #13 on Saturday morning.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.  Give me a call at 816-210-1063 if you want to help.

I want to give a big thanks to Lance Dwyer, Will Love & sons, Caleb Coffman, Brandon Elkins, and Dan Coffman who cleared the tee box for the first north hole(#13) Saturday (roughly 70 -80' into the woods and its ready for the teepad  :P).  The new alternate pin placement in the woods for #12 and walk trails thru the woods from #12 to #13 and from #16 to #17 were also cleared.  All of the debri was removed and burned :o...  The city of Pleasant Hill also dug the new pin placements, and will set the pins this week.  We're really excited about these new holes, so come out and check them out.

Smaller communities are easier to work with Brian, give yourself time.  Realize that LS has been in the "process" for over 10 years now, they have the baskets purchased, which means that they will have a course soon!!
