EMPORIA'S TOURNAMENT??????
« on: October 23, 2008, 09:16:52 PM »
With the PDGA using a Tandy 1000 and a one finger typist to rework their web site, I am not sure where to get tour information for upcoming events. I have talked to a few people in KC and none of us are 100 percent sure what is going on with the Dynamic Disc tournament in Emporia next month. Is there one? When the PDGA website did work, it said the tourny was going to be held over two days; Nov 8th and 9th but that was all it said. There was no early registration link or numbers to call for information. Now that the PDGA is suddenly back in 1994 and seemingly making its way back to the future slower than real time, and with no contact information for Dynamic Discs available anywhere, what should a crippled soul do to get in on the know? KDGA is mute; and nothing has been posted here, so I am getting rather anxious.

It's not a Tandy.....it's a Timex Sinclair 1000.

Missouri....our state animal is sterile, our state rock is lead, and we elected a dead guy to the U.S. Senate.  Of course, he was the best candidate.

I talked with rusco last weekend. The way i understand it is on Saturday, November 8th is a one day B tier in Jones park. On Sunday November 9th is a one day B tier in Peter Pan park. One way to get info on the Kansas scene is to look at the KDGA website. There is a link to it on our KCFDC home page.

So it went from a B tier to two C tiers, that's not good. I wonder if he expects everyone to pay for both tournaments separately? Sounds like a fine mess brewin' down in Emporia.

(Chappy - The tandy 1000 was the radio shack computer that came out in 1981 or 82. It's main competition was the commodore 64.)

It looks like two one day B tier events to me:

http://rusco.lrehosting.com/tournaments.shtml

Sounds expensive. There is no flyer for either event yet so you can't tell what the entry fees are.

I spoke with Jeremy just before leaving the office last night. He wasn't sure what he would set the entry fees at, but I suggested (based on last year's flier) that each entry fee be about 1/2 of what they charged lat year. And, he said he would be posting the flier soon.

I mean no disrespect to the fellas in Emporia. My comments aren't directed toward them. I'm commenting on the unknown

Yep, I remember.  The Timex Sinclair 1000 came out in 1982.  The jewel and progenitor of the Tandy Line was, of course, the TRS-80, pictured here, which I think had all of 4K of RAM:

I had mine until my last move and my old lady made me get rid of it.

Most modern computers may brag about capacity and speed, but they truly WISH they had a DISK (drive) that size :o   Is that a studly 8"  ??? or a wry 5-1/4"   ???

BTW: I hid my TRS-80 behind all those boxes of discs and t-shirts...

Yes, it's a model II. It has the 8" drive. Most people had the model III with the 5.25" drive. The model II wasn't out very long. The model I had to be hooked to a cassette deck. Likewise the TI 99/4a, but it had a slot for a proprietary cartridge too.

I still have an Atari 400 and an Atari 600xl in a box somewhere.
