Official PDGA Magazine for 2009

Perhaps this has already been discussed and I missed it but I received my electronic PDGA Newsletter today and it says that the official PDGA Magazine for 2009 will be DiscGolfer edited by our very own Rick Rothstein.  Congratulations Rick!

I've always been partial towards Disc Golf World News simply because I've seen it evolve over the years from the black and white Columbia Disc Golf News (?) into a full color glossy magazine.  I'm assuming that DiscGolfer will be similar to Disc Golf World News and I won't have to read about disc catching dogs?

I think this is a good move for the PDGA. I personally did not care for the personality of FDM, nor the tonality of the articles. It was like "Maxim" for disc golf. Not that there is anything wrong with that kind of presentation; I am sure that there is a market nitch for it. Anyways, I am sure that Rick will do a terrific job, as I also was very fond of DGWN.

We're working hard on DiscGolfer, which will be the new PDGA-published magazine that will go to every active member. Delivery date will be in April. You'll be able to subscribe without going through the PDGA, but the best route to get it is to join.

I wanted to let people know that last year's PDGA magazine, Flying Disc Magazine, is still alive, and according to the FDM website, can be found in Kansas City at Barnes and Noble on the Plaza and Books a Million in the Legends. It's also at Hastings in St Joe and Topeka. We're getting a few at DGW on Friday. Placing them on newsstands is a costly and risky marketing strategy; one that might well bring benefits to disc sports if successful. I'll know Friday what content is contained in this issue, which will has to be pretty good for the magazine to have a chance to survive on the open market. Pick one up and check it out.

I rather liked the FDM format, although it could often stand better editing.

I like the fact that you can read about ALL disc sports, as the title implied. Maybe that's why disc GOLFERS complained about the content, but I think it's great! I'm ready to subscribe.

Look at how many redundant magazines are on the newsstand for various subjects, and I think FDM has a real chance of hitting it big - which means more players of all DISCiplines as well as potential sponsors.

I'm looking forward to the new Disc Golfer mag and the sport's continued evolution.

i don't mind the coverage of other disc sports, but their coverage of the PDGA majors was a joke.  very poor compared to the spreads in DGWN.

I'm sure DiscGolfer will kick FDM all over the course, keeping in mind that the more coverage disc sports get surely will help.

I got five different issues last year.  Wasn't there a plan for a "year end" 6th issue?

i got the latest issue and thought there was some cool stuff in there.  there is another sport out there that many of the true athletes in disc play and that is ultimate.  For my birthday my mom told me she was getting me a subscription and i was looking forward to it up until all the haters denounced it.

i do agree that their coverage was lacking but i still enjoyed reading it.

Sometime soon (I think next week) there will be a joint announcement from the PDGA and FDM about the "sixth" issue. PDGA members did not get the sixth issue as the agreement with FDM ended after issue #5. However, issue 5 was sent to subscribing members.
