KDGA website (Rusco) says the city will be allowing camping in the park that weekend.

Sounds like the cheapest way to me...may have to go for that option.

There is usually 4 or 5 tents out there. They normally camp along the pond on hole 18 east. There is a little land that isn't part of any holes. Just North and West of the parking lot for hole 1 on the west course.

the event is always heavily attended by "local touring pros/adv" always has always will be, the issue is that we have a bigger community of disc golfers in our own backyard that don't play at this level,a nd thus why having events in Kansas City is NEVER going to hurt attendance for events that close.  It's silly to think that they would.  It is like asking a regular bicyclist racer if they wanted to race a car at Nascar.....so the event will not feel the effects of the continuing effort to promote our sport to countless people that are in corporate america that have no idea of it, and try to garner more support in the future, while still maintaining what is shaping up to be the biggest GBO ever.

Good luck to all this weekend!  I think its a great testament to our sport that it is going to be a big weekend for "competitive disc golf" within a 100 mile radius.

They are capping this tourney at 190 players....there are already 181 signed up, so if you plan on going, you better sign up TODAY!

Dumb ? and I'll go hide but well, why is GBO "on the PDGA tour?"  That is what I'm being told why there is such a huge turn out this year.  16 1000 rated players already.

Does the PDGA hold "touring courses" here in KC area?  Or is the Wide Open considered the PDGA course to play?

the GBO has 16 1000 rated players(several out of towners included) mostly because there is an NT event the following week in Oklahoma.

The GBO is an A tier event. A tier events always tend to draw more touring pros. Couple that with the NT in OK Brian mentioned and you have your answer about why so many pros are here for it.

Your other questions make no sense. What do you mean by "touring courses"? And, the Wide Open is a tournament played on local courses such as Rosedale and Water Works. It is not a "PDGA course"... WTF?

If they're "capping" it at 190 players, it sounds like they're doing one or more of 3 things:

1. Adding holes to the course.
2. Playing in some 6-somes.
3. Using "ghost" cards.

In any case, I know it'll be a fun event, but I'd plan on some long rounds, and long waits between holes. Maybe Schoen-hopper will pull another Louganis this year.

It'll work, just make sure you pack a lunch or perhaps a book to read between holes.
