Shocking, never-before-seen photos of Hell freezing over!
« on: June 23, 2009, 08:23:05 PM »
It was a sweltering morning, and all was quiet at Cliff Drive. There was nothing to indicate anything had changed since the day before:

Suddenly, there was a rumble as the heavens opened up and unleashed their galactic forces upon the Earth:

The holy brown ooze began to flow:

And the Army of Light began to spread it forth:

And smooth it over:

Until they had created a masterpiece of epic proportion:

And then they put a broom finish and edging on it, but at that point the camera guy was so awestruck by what was happening that he could no longer hold his camera steady...

How can we be sure that this isn't some elaborate hoax (much like the moon landing). Tee pads at Cliff Drive is as likely a scenario as the Royals making the playoffs. It's nice to dream of both, but the reality is that neither have a shot in hell of coming true. While the pictures do make this interesting, I wouldn't put it past Jack that he may have doctored the photos in order to get more people out at league this week. I for one am a bit skeptical, Tee Pads at Cliff? Believe it when I see it....in person.

As hot as it was I bet they had to hustle to get them done. I didn't see any rebar though. I wonder, did they put fibreglass in the mix?

Awesome!  :)

Hopefully they sprayed the concrete right after they broomed em with curing compound. If they didn't, chances are there will be surface shrinkage cracking show up within a few days/weeks.
Another way to prevent surface shrinkage cracking is to cover with burlap and keep the burlap continuosly moist for approx 72 hours.

we got an 1 1/2" of rain last night folks......calm down.  This is poured at Driveway spec pressure.  Other than having to recreate #10 in the woods (short placement is gone for good now) as #1 was moved back to where we were throwing from, it seems to be going pretty well out there.  All the pads will be done today.  I left there and they were finishing up on #17 which means that 1, 2, and 9-18 were done already by 8:45

Really good news! The color will make em unique too.

Without curing compound the surface drys out too fast. You've probably seen surface cracking before in concrete. It looks like a spider web pattern on the top surface. Curing compound is available in white pigment or clear. It's sort of like a liquid wax material that seals the surface and prevents rapid loss of moisture. The world won't end without it, but we may see surface cracks, which could make problems (spalling and pitting) down the road, like 10 or 15 years from now.  :-\

There was no rebar, no fiber reinforcement, no super-duper-sealer-curer stuff applied, just concrete. I don't care about what might happen down the road, let's just enjoy what we've got now. Cliff Drive has concrete tee pads!

Please, do not attempt to throw from these pads until the caution tape is removed.

Awesome news that brought a smile to my face in AZ.  I know where I will be playing a skins round next time I am back in KC.  Great work Jack and all the rest of the KCFDC for wading through all the hassles to see this project through to completion.

I would really like to see a picture of hole 1's pad.

It didn't get put where originally planned. It pretty much got backed up the entire pad length, so the front is where the back was going to be. Sucks, but P&R would not pour the pad in the planned location due to stability concerns with the tie structure. There really isn't much changed with the shot-- we've been throwing from behind the form anyway, but it does encroach into #10's green area a bit. We'll have a situation with drives coming from #10 that occasionally end up near #1's pad, kinda like Rosedale's #7 to #8. Just gotta be careful and pay attention...
