I just wanna play!
« on: October 04, 2005, 12:22:35 AM »
:? My 7-year-old son and I played a few times in Iowa. Now that we moved here, I need some details, please. Can we just show up and play? I mean, do we have to pay or join a tournament? Neither one of us is very good at it, but it gives us some quality time together and exercise. I'm also my son's Cub Scout Den Leader, and I would like to bring the boys out to play a round as a reward for good behavior...any suggestions? I was thinking that Water Works is probably the closest to us. Thanks in advance!

Disc golf is, for the most part, free to play since most courses are in public parks. There are some public courses in other cities that charge to play (I've actually only seen one, in San Diego) but none of the KC area courses are pay to play.

Just show up and play! We do have leagues sponsored by the Kansas City Flying Disc Club that are $5 to play and there are tournaments all over the country with varying entry fees. Once you play for a while and feel like you may want to compete just show up and join us. The league schedules are listed here:

There's a free-to-play Monday night New Player's League too. This is a good one for someone who has never played organized disc golf before. It will give a good introduction to rules and course ettiquette.

But that's the very long answer to your question. Just go play!! I hope your son enjoys it. There also is a new nine-hole junior course at Blue Valley Park. That would be a perfect course to take a bunch of Cub Scouts to. I suspect you could even get some seasoned players from the club to help you with the outing. All you have to do is ask. We do that sort of thing all the time.   :)
