Sledding and Disc Golf On Sunday 12-27-09 Blue Valley Park

Steve Hos and myself are trying to get a few people together for a great sledding and discing event on Sunday at 11-12am. I figure we play Safari for 9 holes and then do some serious sledding at a great park for it.

If anybody wants to come the more the merrier.

We plan on meeting at the shelter by hole 4. There is a great hill here to sled on and as well 17 is a great hill for sledding.

some of my fondest memories of winters as a young kid in KC are of sledding on suicide hill (AKA hole 17 and 18's fairway).

How about COMBINING the two.  While going down the hill on the sled you have to throw.  Hmmm, sled golf.  Hmm, toboggan golf.  Gary Lezak predicted a few hours ago over a foot of snow in K.C. with snowdrifts.  If you haven't tried throwing in the snow it's very easy to lose discs.  The disc sometimes hit tree roots, rocks, etc. under the snow and kick in unpredictable directions.  BRING EXTRA PLASTIC!

I READ, UP NORTH THEY TAPE A RIBBON TO THE TOP OF THE DISC SO IT WILL EASIER TO LOCATE.

Mike D was just talking about doing that yesterday! (The ribbon trick)..... I too, remember the days as a kid at blue valley sledding.. There would be 50-100 people at times with warming barrels going and probably lots of warm rum! There seemed to be other odd smells in the air that I didn't recognize as a child  .......weird! Annnnnyway, Sledding at bv tomorrow sounds Awesome!!!!!!!

When it snows all you need to do is tape a ribbon in the middle so at least 6 inches to a foot is hanging off the end.  Last year when I brought it out for everyone, a few people laughed and said they didn't think it worked.  Well.   They looked for frisbees all day and I did not.   So someone bring ribbon and duct tape with them today.

I'm trying to picture this ribbon on the disc thing, seems like it would work great for finding discs in the snow, but wouldn't it create a tremendous amount of aero drag in flight?

We will be there we are currently looking for a warming barrel. As far as the rum and other smells BYO.

It isn't that bad.  Luckily it's down under and you don't need the disc to go far anyway.

I drove past BV yesterday, and there were tons of cars lined up on the road along #17, and a bunch of people sledding. The hill should be nice and fast today!

It was awesome, my wife, kids and I had a blast out there. We started out with the crowd at the bunny hill on #17, but soon moved on to Brad and Steve's Black Diamond run down #3's upper fairway. I'd forgotten how fun and tiresome sledding can be! Good times, fo sho!
