Fox Hill-NKC WORK DAY, 6-16-12!!!!

So the disc golf juniors courses are poping up out East, South, and eventually North.  The track of land at Fox Hill  looks good from an aerial image, but it has some serious water shed trenches.  unfortunately, the main runoff trench runs right down the middle of the land.   And that trench has some very dangerous parts.  After walking and walking and walking this past week, i think i figured out the best route and have 15 holes nailed down. The other three will be part of the shorter holes that the students will loop while playing in class.  The pe teacher wants to have six holes that his students could "loop" and can keep playing and are all visible.   

The grant writing process is under way and i am pushing for the use of the DEFORESTER!   So we are hoping to get that finacial  angle figured out becuase we want to work smarter, not harder.  We are going to need some type of bad boy machinery to go in and clean house because it is very similar to Young park(overgrown forest). 

As we get things on track I will post a work day.  There is no parks dept to depend on,so we will need some help.  This will be another  really fun woods course(two holes are open) with lots of trees.

The grant money has been approved.  Construction will begin in the next few weeks.  Bringing in a deforester  to clear land.  Dan Cashen will be involved in running the bullet proof cab skid on tracks.  Course will be 18 wooded and a few open holes and is located of N Oak Trfwy and 106.  . More details will come.   If you live in the Northland and would like to get involved there is much work to be done.

This Saturday there is an Eagle Scout building 9 tee pads if any one would like to come out and assist. We are making some progress and the scouts could probably use some extra help.  Had the deforester for one day and high probability for it to be donated again for several days.  Several holes are opening up but still needing much work.  We got to mound pin placements(similar to BV) made today with the skid and 10 tee pads dug out.  Next week we should be running the deforester all week and more holes will begin to take shape.  Bill Lentz, the pe teacher, is getting tremendous support from local businesses.  Not just in  cash donations, but in equipment donations skid/deforester, RR ties donated, AB3 dust gravel donated etc.   How about having 15 workers with chain saws and a chipper just drop by the other day from a local landscaping business?  Or a skid steer operator for two days?  

However, there we have only put a dent in this project.  We are looking at 2 pads per hole, one junior and the longer ones ranging from 180+ but all in dense woods.

If you are interested  please come on out.   Bring basic digging tools-pick axe, various shovels, long level, sledge hammer/mini.  Also bring out loppers or chain saws.

Fox Hill Elementary disc golf course will be having a work day this Saturday, April 21st from  9am -?.  The course planned to open in May, with the offical ribbon cutting in August or September.  We have accomplished so much with such a limited budget.  This is an 18 hole juniors wood course,   multiple tee pads for every hole, providing 16 red level design rated holes for more advanced players.  The longer tees range from hairy/technical 190ft to  a couple more open 300ft with most holes averaging 230.  The longer tee pads will be challenging pads for even advanced players on 70% of them.   

This weekend we have an Eagle scout project lined up to build 9 tee pads.  If we can get extra help, we can knock out more tee pads while the proper machinery is on site.  In addition to tee pad work, we have some holes that need more clearing and cutting.  There is plenty of work to be done so bring out whatever tools you own.

Went out and worked the Fox Hill course today. Course looks really cool. We put in several gravel teepads. Lots of hard work. Nice technical course William Yates but longer. If anyone can make these workdays would be great to have golfers help because they understand the way of a discgolf course. This course is real cool with a good mix of pro holes and a few that are acceptable for youth to play. Go check it out

We are getting closer and closer to opening.  We need help building tee boxes tomorrow morning (Sunday, May 6th).   Works starts at 9am for all you non church going sinners.  Come sweat out your margaritas from Cinco De Mayo.

Thanks to Ted Keith and Mark Alfrey for coming out and working.  We worked through the rain and eventually it let up.  We are only three pads away from finishing, 20+ pads.  We will be out working every weekend to get it ready to open.  Still plenty left to do.  I am going to send Teddy a map because he was interested in doing minor/lighter work by himself that disc golfers know to look for.

more than likely on Sunday.  We need to go through each hole and  raise the ceilings so it is helpful to have two people when using the pole saw, that way one person can run it and the other can point to what needs to be taken out.  With two folks you do not have to run back and forth over and over trying to be careful not to cut out the wrong things.

We might also be getting close to putting in tee signs as well.  Bill will be working on Sat filling in the tee boxes that we built last weekend with the dingo.  We are getting really close to having it playable.  We are hoping to have it playable by the last week in May.

If you are not playing in the Might Mo this Saturday, we could use some help setting anchor sleeves and tee sign posts. Please come on out and help us get this long awaited project closer to completion.  Work starts at 9am and if we get several volunteers out, the course will be playable that much sooner.  This project has been in the works for 2 years now and has received tremendous support from local businesses.  This course would have just be another one of the those sites where disc golfers say, "man that would be a sweet spot for a course." Donations from Messengers Lawn Care and many others made it happen.   Now is the time for the disc golf community to do its part and push hard to get this course completed.

We will have an auger on site this Saturday.  Bring any tools that we might need...post hole digger for when we hit rocks, hoe, sharp shooter shovel/shovel, wheel barrow.  If you do not have any tools, just bring your strong back.

Course length 4200 ft, longest hole over 300 ft, challenging tees/fairways/greens, OB on several holes, multiple routes on several holes, multiple tee pads for beginners and kids and longer pads for advanced players, elevation, baskets on mounds.

Disc golf  is growing  and you can be part of making it happen.  Hope to see you on Saturday.

Calling all northlanders, we need your help this weekend. Do not be fooled and think Fox Hill will be a kiddie course.  We have re-tweaked  some holes and expanded into some other areas pushing greater lengths on several holes. 

How many of you had a disc golf course at your elementary school?  Come make that possible.

If you are not playing the Mighty Mo, please come out and lend a hand.  We have had disc golfers come out and lend a hand and lend their machinery ie Steve Dresser, Adam Johnson, Bill Lentz and family, Ted Keith, Mark Alfrey, 2 different Boy Scout Eagle projects.  However,i am not trying to diminish their hard work, but this project would have never been possible without the ridiculous generosity of Messengers Lawn Care.  They have spent close to 30k in donated labor, machinery, fuel, skid operators, wood chips, chemicals, chain saw crews, wood chippers,  etc. 

We are so close to being playable, please help us make that happen.  And playable is used loosely, because cutting through dense forest is incredible task.  The course will still be very rough in spots, but golfers can come out and adopt a hole and clean up, tidy up, and make the course look more refined. 

We are doing a trial run tomorrow setting a sleeve.  We are using an in ground anchor sleeve kit sold by Disc Nation, but it  fits remarkably well for the DB5.  So any of you that have DB5's you can buy the kits for a cheap price and have the freedom to move your baskets around at your personal/home courses and lock them up securely.

Courses don't put themselves in the ground.  It seems there's always more people around to play them then to help get them ready to play.
