???? Bag Tag Tourney ????
« on: January 19, 2006, 10:39:36 AM »
Dennis and I have been talking and sounds like he is trying to figure something out on these bottle opener bag tag ideas.

What are your thoughts on how to distribute them and do you like the idea of Bag Tags?

Or latest and greatest scheme is to have a "Bag Tag Tourney" with a $10 entry the winner taking home #1 plus some prize money.  Tags will run about $5 after shipping and that includes a couple bucks to the club.  With the $10 entry we would then take the extra $5 and have some money for payouts on the tourney.  Maybe a CTP contest for the #10 Tag or something.

Please vote so we can get a feel of what all you members want to do.

Thanks for the input...

Here is the idea that I've borrowed from the Delaware Disc Club

These guys have been very helpful to me with explaining how they have successfully ran Tag Challenges for many years in their club, and helping me out with rules and ideas.  It would be great if someone who was involved in the previous KCFDC Tag Challenge post or email me the rules that were in place for the challenge so I can compare them to the ones I'm working on.

One more thing do we want to have a seperate Women's division?  We could easily get 10-20 of the Tags in a Purple or something.

I don't think women should get different ones, because that limits thier play.  Honestly there are only a handful of women that play in this area and if we make them a different Tag that pretty much takes all the fun out of it for them.  I say a tag is a tag...no matter what....now getting different colors for number placing I like that idea.

#1 - Gold
#2 thru #15 - Silver
#16 thru #30 - Blue
#31 thru #50 - Green
#50 thru #100 - Red
Then make the rest black or some boring color...haha

I would have to look to see if I still have the rules from when I ran this previously.  I think I might, but it'll take some looking.  e-mail me direct if you want them.

Dennis got the sample of the bottle opener in and said he was going to try and make it out to Olathe league in the morning so people could check it out.

Yes it works nicely to open a beer too :) I had to quality check the merchandise.  I'll also bring the samples to Ice Bowl next weekend.

Thanks for everyone's support, I'm thinking we could be successful with the Tag Challenge this year.

well, I looked through my electronic files, and it seems I deleted or archived that stuff to CD and have somehow misplaced it.  Go figure

Hopefully I still have hard copies somewhere...I think I kept all of that, but you never know for sure.

Bag Tag Rules

what do you know?  I actually found a file that had copies of the rules/flyers in it!  They are the rules from '03...woo hoo!  Imagoodgolfer.  LOL

Anyway here is what we did:
Tags were $20 ($35 for non-club members...and you got to become a KCFDC member).
Challenges:
-Tags must hang visibly from our person/bag at all times when on the course.
-Anyone can challenge anyone.
-Lowest overall score in a challenge gets the lowest tag number.
-Ties result in a push.
-No Doubles and Skins (challenges are based on individuals overall score)
-Challenges must be played on the same course with the same layout as the person you are challenging.
-Mandatory to accept challenges during local events (leagues and tourneys).
-If 2 tags are on a card, there is an on-card challenge.
-Only one challenge outside of your card per round.
-Settle card challenges first (off card challenges second)

Additional requirements:
-Must play in 1 club event a month.
-Must participate in the Club Championships.
-Top 5 tags must play in 1 club event every two weeks. (once a week the last month of the season).

Pay out was for top 3 tags at the end of the year.
Had prizes at local tourneys throughout the year.
Option of Commerative tags.

no luck yet on newer tag rules, but if I remember correctly (and chances are that I do not), we pretty much kept them the same.  I think we added a $1 charge to every challenge (winner gets $1).   I could go on an on for the reasons behind rules and what-not....but basically we wanted to keep the cost of the tags reasonable, and to keep people playing and participating in the challenges while keeping the rules as simple as possible, and hopefully raise some money for course improvements.  If I come across newer rules I'll post them here.

it's really a cool gig, and if you've got someone/some people who play a lot and have the time to dedicate to running it it can be a ton of fun.  Even without someone paying a lot of attention, the players have a great time with the added 'challenge' and smack talk that goes along with it (at least I did).

again, feel free to e-mail me directly with any questions or if you just wanna bs.  ststephan@gmail.com

peace!

Thanks for you reply.  From the few people I've talked to about it, it sounds like we should take the money out of it.  Make it more of a bragging rights, fun side game.  The people that want to gamble on their challenge are more than welcome to do that.

The only other rule I see that I'd like to see imposed would be tournaments.  Every player playing in the Tournament would turn in their Tag at the beginning of the event.  A Tag Keeper (myself or someone else) would then write down who turned in what number.  After the even the tags are re-dispensed to everyone according to low score.  This would help mix-up the tags a little.

Then what we could do at the end of the year is have a New Years Eve Tag round which would be the last challenge of 2006, and you last chance to get the lowest number.  The following day New Years Day 2007 new tags handed out after everyones round.

Take the money out it, which is fine with me ($10-15 to get one, it pays for the tag and goes to the Club), but there was a lot of whining about it last time, when there was no payout.

I'll never be in a position to get the top 3, so a payout is really irrelevant to me.  But, I do think bragging rights should be the main consideration.

Let's have bagtags be something for the average joe player.  We get so little consideration in the grand scheme of things.
