26th Annual Frontier Open

The Frontier is our longest running KDGA sanctioned event. If you've never had the chance to head out to Hays to play this course, this would be the opportune time to do it. This tournament has come close to filling in the past, and with Dynamic Discs running it this year, it likely will fill. Pre-registration for this tournament is a REQUIREMENT, as we will be having a very early Round 1 tee off to accommodate getting 48 holes in. You will not be able to roll in on Saturday morning and sign-up. Your registration must be in by 9:00 PM on Friday 9/10.

http://www.kansasdiscgolf.com/forum/...hp?f=17&t=3606

The Flying Bison Disc Golf Club and Dynamic Discs invite you to attend the 26th Annual Frontier Open September 11th and 12th at Frontier Park in Hays, Kansas. The tournament is a Professional Disc Golf Association B-tier and Kansas Disc Golf Association super tour event with an anticipated $2500 added cash divided amongst all divisions.

The Frontier open features 72 holes of golf, alternate tee pads, alternate pin placements, closest to pin shots, an ace fund, a putting contest, and Saturday night players party for all players! This year participants will play three rounds of 24 holes; two rounds of 24 holes on Saturday and one round of 24 on Sunday. There are divisions for all players at all skill levels.

The divisions and fees are as follows
Open men, $75;
Open women, $75;
Masters, $75;
Advanced men, $60;
Advanced masters, $60;
Advanced women, $60;
Intermediate men, $45;
Intermediate women, $45;
Recreational, $45;
Juniors, $25;
Ace fund, $5 (optional)
Non-PDGA members will pay an additional $10 fee.

On-line pre-registration available at Dynamic Discs. Payout is based on the number of participants and sponsors. Dynamic Discs will be running the amateur payout and merchandising for the event. Participants should check the KDGA discussion board the day before the tournament for updates/changes. The first 90 participants to register will be guaranteed a 26th Annual T-shirt, disc and booklet in the players’ package. Last year we had 102 participants, so pre-register early to guarantee a player’s package!

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for the event please contact Scott Haynes and help us reach our goal of $2500+ added for this event!

This year participants will play three rounds of 24 holes. There will be six temporary holes added to the existing course.

This couse is very cool. It was designed by Ron Rice and pole-holes were installed in 1984. My step-dad and Ron were good buddies, so I was introduced to the game fairly early on. I didn't start playing until 1992, but that was the course I learned how to play on. If you ever get a chance to play it, do so. A LOT of changes have been made to the course in the past several years, so it's not the same as it was in the past. It's VERY challenging nowadays, but still a fun round. I'll see you there Kevin!

Yep, the wind picked up a lot today and the course was set quite a bit tougher.

Ron's still out in Hays working for the parks department I believe. I have never met him personally but the locals speak very highly of him. He no longer plays DG but is still active in maintaining and enhancing the Frontier Park disc golf course. As a matter of fact, they present someone with the Ron Rice Award for their contributions to disc golf every year during the awards after the tourney. This year it was presented to Ron Convers, who also won the open division.
