Basket Height adjustment

We are here to please the complainers and Eric and myself worked hard today adjusting 13 baskets to the PDGA 82cm + or - 6cm standards.  We moved the baskets to both pin positions in order to find the most appropriate adjustment.  So after measuring the basket on the high and low side we pulled the basket, then carried the basket to the alternative pin and measured it, and then for most baskets we moved them back to the first placement.  So after 20+ trips we had enough and called it a day.

The other 5 baskets will be completed by league this Wednesday.  Now there should be no complaints about putting on low baskets and you have no one to blame but yourself for you poor putting


Also, thanks to Jay Cram for emptying trash cans with out liners, drilling holes in the trash cans, putting plastic  bags in them and pulling trash bags out.

So how do you adjust the height John?

Many baskets that i have seen have a what is called the "locking collar and tab".   This collar is adjustable.   It has three pieces of   hardware that can be loosened.  Before you loosen the collar and tab, measure the new height and mark on the pole how far up or down you want to slide the locking collar and tab.  If the basket is way too high you might not have enough room to slide the pole deeper into the ground so you might be sawing but   most baskets are too low so this should not be an issue.  There is plenty of extra pole that rests in the ground for low baskets so you can raise the collar and still have plenty left in the ground.  Loosen the bolt and screw and slide the collar to the newly measured appropriate height. Use the  old screw and bolt holes and use them as guide on where to drill the new holes. take a permanent marker and mark one new hole.  You might need to only mark one hole at a time in case your drilling is off.  When you initially take out the screw and bolt you will find that BOLT hole goes all the way through the pole so you have to be careful in your drilling to make sure your bolt holes line up.  Drill one bolt hole and then use the collar as a guide and line up your newly drilled hole to mark the backside of bolt hole. Then drill out that the next (bolt) hole and your bolt should be able to slide through.  After that you will have to drill out your last hole which will be the screw hole and that only goes through one side of the basket pole.
 

Tip:If your basket has a nickel you need to put some type of identfying marks on ONE side of the locking collar/tab and the pole.  WHY?  if you do not, you will find that nickel does not line up in the direction of the  fairway.   
Tip: You can also slide the collar back and forth between the old holes and your new marked spots to check your spots and see if they line up with the old drilled holes.

Lillian was awesome.  That little girl was having so much fun hanging out with us and we put her to work.   She was marking holes, using tools, and of course collecting rocks and exploring.  I think we tired out before she did.
