I seriously doubt that the smoking actions can be enforced by the PDGA, and if so, then people will opt out on PDGA events.

Alcohol is one thing as people loose inhibitions and cause actions that are not normal.....not that I havent seen people cause actions for lack of nicotine.....

I don't see this as a PDGA action, but truly a CaliforNIA action to prevent forest fires, and you may have heard of that happening in the past in CaliforNIA.....

I see what Cooper is saying about putting forth a good appearence, but now that they ban smoking during play, you are gonna have every smoker on every card, smoking a cig as soon as they turn in thier card....which is where?  Tourney headquarters....which is usually were they position cameras, spectators, vendors and such and will be seen the most.

Forest Fires suck....and are decent fightin' wordz...

Again, smoking on TV hasn't hurt the PGA.   Though I'm sure they stray away from it as often as possible, they have not banned it from there.

The discussion of medicinal uses for prescribed medication in direct violation has been discussed.  The determination was made that ingestion prior to the event should allow the effects to be done without violation of the rules, so use of medication as prescribed in conflict with the rules during the event would still cause an infraction of the rules, and be subject to the penalties set forth in the rules.

It did make for some interesting discussion points though.....

Fire protection is what I would have thought this would be about.  All of the courses there will be bone dry that time of year. It doesn't take much at all to start a fire under those conditions. Many park spaces will likely be under Red fire warning conditions.  As such, open flames would be prohibited. Disobeying local laws is grounds for DQ.   I am not familiar with a couple of the courses.  Those may not have any fire protection rules (highly unlikely).  The TD may have requested this for course protection during the time the PDGA can have an affect on fire prevention.  The smoking ban is only in effect during play.

The fire prevention measures make sense, but you watch-- next year, they'll just continue the ban during play because they'll figure everyone will have been conditioned to such a ban from this year's event. In essence, they're going to use this Worlds to establish a precedent. That's how institutions enact their fascist policies, via incremental methods.

This is not the first time, AZ for worlds they banned smoking in the past, and it did not continue in the years after that, so take it as a local condition, not a PDGA hidden agenda!
