Charlotte, NC courses
« on: May 05, 2011, 11:00:39 AM »
Hey all -

I am heading to Charlotte, NC for a week and will have plenty of time to DG while I am there.  I will be in the southern end of the metro area.  I have looked at DG Course Review and PDGA for courses there, but still want advice on which ones to go play.  Any suggestions?  Courses to avoid?

Pretty much any course Stan McDaniel designed is going to be top notch.

Renny and Hornet's Nest are probably the 2 most famous ones.

If you can get ahold of one (I can give it to you), borrow the Class Renny Gold DVD.  They highlight a lot of those courses.

Have played Reny, Hornets Nest and Ready Creek. Like all three. Reedy is the oldest and most popular course in town so consider time and day when playing. Althought playing when there are more folks you might be able to join in with a group. Reedy is short and cuts through the woods requiring accuracy over distance. Played Hornet's Nest several years ago. Front nine is fairly open, the back has lots of timber. It has a second set of baskets on some holes for the "Charlottes Web" layout. That layout was a little more challenging than what I was looking for at the time. Reny is a great course that will definately challenge. Some unique pin placements. Again I did not try the "Gold" version. Looked like it would be very painful.
