Who is putting this tournament on? Is it through the parks department?

No, the course will not be shut down exclusively for the tournament.

Have you discussed this with the folks at SMP? Just curious. We had to jump through hoops to be allowed to hold our weekly mini there.

By the way, do you have a name? Who's the TD of this tourney?

Yeah, my name is Diego Ladron, student at KU. I am the TD for this. I have talked to SM Park and told them that I did not want to shut the whole course down and they said there would be no problem. I believe trying to get the course shut down would be much more difficult. This should be a fun and competitive event, and every player gets some pretty cool merchandise to take home from Discraft!

As this date is rapidly approaching, is this event a "go" or not?  There has been no additional info since the beginning post.  If it is going to happen, how about some additional details.  Thanks.
Sorry to hear about your luck!!!   :P

I gotta confess.....as a "former" league runner out there, I find it hard to believe that there is any kind of tournament being run out there, without the KCFDC knowing about it, but, at the same token, not really.  Due to the Shawnee Parks department being like they are, I am really surprised that they would "sanction" anything like this, since it takes an act of congress to move baskets around, much less anything else.  I'm of the firm belief that they don't give a **** about anyone but themselves as far as what they want done in their park.  With that said, they have in the past hooked us up with a tourney or two, but overall, out of all the Parks departments in KC, I think they believe they're "above" all the rest.  Just my two cents......

since the link in the OP is dead, possibly the assumption is that the event is not happening.

The guy that started this thread got several messages form the club asking him about it and questioning whether he got approval from the parks department. He said he had cleared it with them but I'm skeptical because he deleted his account and disappeared the same day. My guess is that it won't be happening but his name is listed so look him up if you want to be sure.

Although it may not appear as though the SMP P&R are as "friendly" as other departments, that has been historically not the case from my stance.  I don't get a sense of entitlement from the people that I have dealt with over the last decade with them.  In fact they have been pretty proactive with the help and the desire to improve the course.

You must realize that this course is in probably the busiest and most "programmed" park in all of KC (they have more events at this park than any other in town)  So are we top dog in the park, absolutely not....should we be....nah, C'mon we have been there a few years, our other parks we have been in for over 30 years....it takes time, but they have been working with us as a group and have been nothing but helpful when they can.  Realistically though this is one of the few parks that needs to worry about other activities beyond Disc Golf and therefore it may not appear that they are the "best" but they are certainly not the "least or better than anyone else".

Our work is cut out, but additions happen out there more frequesntly than some of our other parks, so lets be thankful that we have a partner out there that does help us out, and more importantly we have a presence in one of the busiest parks in the metro, and that will lead to new people enjoying the sport, and developing a fondness for it to help us grow as a disc golf community.

Where did that come from Jack? Do you know if the event is happening or what. I felt like I was reading a completely different thread.   ???

I think that was aimed slightly in my direction.  I was on a bit of a rant that night, and was not in the best of moods when I posted that.  Looking back at what I posted, looks like I was a bit frustrated.  I need to bite my tongue on occasion, when I speak towards something that I'm not exactly informed in.  :-X

That makes more sense. But your post was on July 22nd. I didn't go back to see what Jack was referring to. I figured he would have addressed that much sooner. His response makes sense in that context. Catch up Jack!
