Swope Park Shootout of the Century
« on: October 06, 2011, 07:48:33 PM »
BIg card playing tonight, just teed off on 17 and walking away from tee when we are all surprised by a rapid popping on gregory just east of the entrance. Took us a second to realize they were gunshots, heard people screaming and yelling. We are all kind of squatting down on 17's fairway when an suv kind of slowly drives across whatever road the entrance to swope is. It drives onto the grass right beside that little set of bleachers by the field closest to gregory. I really thought whoever was driving was shot the way it was rolling to a stop.

I'm sitting there watching this scene thinking wow that was some crazy shiz, when 4 dudes with braids bail out of the suv and start unloading. I would have to say anywhere from 30 -50 shots were fired. By then we had all tucked tail and were croutch running the hell out of there. It was over in maybe 30 seconds i'm not sure. Then we saw the dudes who were definetely out of bullets running off into the neighborhood behind the fields across from hole 4. It when from wow was that a shoot out, kind of cool, to this is definetely not cool is everybody still standing. We were all kind of standing around looking at each other in a daze, saying holy effing shti.

Couple of minutes earlier and we are all putting on 16 basket out by the road, would not have been a good place to be. They had to have been firing right across the downward slope past 16's basket. Never gonna look at that hole the same.

3 guys were teeing off on 16, we had a 7-some, and quite a few people were in or around the parking lot. So the park was decently busy. By the time i left police and fire men were every where.

Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy.
Glad no golfers were hit, but the swope park legacy continues.

then we won't wait for you on tuesday.

it's a sad fact that dipsticks are allowed to have firearms with no more training than how to load and pull the trigger. it is even sadder that anyone of us could catch a bullet just about anywhere dipsticks are allowed to roam free.

I highly doubt these dipsticks were "allowed" to have those guns, as in possessing them legally. They're probably all felons who, like most felons, don't obey gun laws anyway. Imagine, a group of thugs rolling into the park to have a shootout with another group of thugs-- just when they're about to start dumping on one another, they suddenly realize, "Hey, we're not legally permitted to carry these firearms, are we? Damn. Okay, let's go turn these guns in to the authorities, then we'll all meet back up here with bike chains and baseball bats. Is everyone okay with that?"

Yeah, if only there were laws requiring people to obtain permits before carrying firearms, and preventing felons from owning firearms, these senseless shootings would never happen.

allowed as in the greater scheme of things pointpicker. I think you should obtain a permit before you're allowed to post again. don't make me start writing in semi decipherable abbreviations, dh.

Similar type experience about a year ago....

...although the number of rounds was significantly lower.  There was absolutely no response to that thread which was either due to the normalcy of the situation or the fact is was Steeler Doug reporting.   ;D

or the fact that hearing gunshots and watching 4 wanna be gangsta's pile out a car trying to see who could unload their clips first are 2 completely different things.

No news reports today, which probably means nobody got hurt. Which means they were terrible shots, and idiots who would only be capable of actually hitting someone who was not their intended target. I feel like an idiot for watching their retardedness. Next time i'll be kissing the grass.

A little side note for my cooter followers. ;D He was with me and when we started to scramble for the big trees down 17's fairway, i started to look for him and he was already ahead of me looking at me like Lets go mf!! That's a good cooter. :D

Heck yeah cooter knows whats up!!! I seen a rolling gun battle going on down gregory back in 2000. Heard gun shots over that way numerous times over the years. This sounds way crazier though.

In order to change peoples perspective on three of our parks. I propose a name change.
Swope Park will be named Martin Luther King Park.
Kessler/Cliff Drive Park will be named Martin Luther King Drive Park
Blue Valley Park will be called Martin Luther King Valley Park
