I have played the "new version" course 3 times in the last 8 days.  Its still Blue Valley folks, it has hills, its a beautiful park, and there are some walks.  But it is a course that can be played in conjunction with another course the same day.

I was asked about Cliff Drive and there are tweaks I want to make before we host another major event there, and asked that it be removed in favor of Blue Springs.  I personally love the contrast of the courses.

Loomis mentinoed the new trees at Blue Valley.  What he fails to mention and what will be in play probably by the time the event is going on is the bushes, shrubberies, and native tall grasses will create obstacles that you may not see now.

I am uncertain on the mowing schedule, but we will address that as we move into the mowing season.  Last year we didn't ask for mowing to be done as it looks horrible on video with the un-mown sections getting a fresh mow before hand, I am sure this will be discussed as we move into the final weeks of the event to make the courses play

Can you clarify what you mean by the tall native grass? If you're talking about the parts they don't mow...

Tall grass isn't really an obstacle because you can still throw from it. Its more of a hinderance to speed of play, IMO, and the reason its been present at BV is to save money on mowing. Don't pee on our heads and tell us its raining, Jack. ;D

Also, unless they are planting native grasses out there, any tall grass left by mowers will be the fescue that currently grows there.

If you were talking about clumps of ornamental grasses like they planted at Swope, and not unmowed fairway grass, let me know and I shall apologize and insert foot accordingly. ;D

Insert foot, or boot, without bone....talking about the 12' tall grasses that will be there on the moguls, etc......

As for the mowing and the tall grass, I am not sure, but that is unfortunately a city thing, not a club thing.  Though with the "shorter" design you really shouldn't lose the disc in tall grass for the pro's, and others shouldn't throw that far to lose it.... :P

We will know more about that as we move forward with the mowing cycles....

The 30th Wide Open will be featured, along with the other NT events, in the next DiscGolfer. Please let me know if you have any photos from the 2011 Wide Open. Action photos are preferred, but not limited to just that. We will also need these photos for promotional purposes.

Please email your best stuff to rick@discgolfworld.com

We should be opening registration for KCWOXXX next week.

Thanks.

it will be based solely on # of participants for that to be determined.....if there are over 90 people playing in the B-Tier, it will be determined by the TD on how to split up the divisions, but you typically will play within your division, though some divisions MAY play the saem course, at times they may play an entirely different course.

We will be looking for about 100 volunteers this year, so please plan on helping if you can.  They don't all need to be disc golfers, as many of the needs will be beyond disc golf but the need to have a huge staff for this event is paramount.

We also will be looking to you to provide old photo's, memories, of the event as well.

More to follow soon.

If you have a chance to watch the Memorial this week on www.discgolfplanet.tv be sure to pay attention to the Wide Open information......

so..............the national tour aspect of the wide open is only for the open men and women? everyone else plays an a or b tier event?
is this the trend for all other nt events?

in quite a few places yes.....even last year the Pro side was all NT, and the Am side was an A-Tier....This year it's just balanced different....

Played the Blue Valley short course this weekend and think it will do well on the same day as Blue Springs. Good mix of distance and technicality between the two.
