Did you know.....

Over 5000 people have played in the Wide Open.......
Over $250,000 has been given away in Cash to players from the event......(This doesn't include any Am Payout $$$)
The 80's=376 players ~$10k
The 90's=2069 players ~$80k
The 00's=2339 players ~$140k
The 10's=356 players ~$22k

We are in year 2 of the 10's and we already beat the entire decade of the 80's in terms of cash, and was 7 years total, yet we are 20 short of smashing that decade attendance!

We need help to continue to make this event work folks.  If you can help for one afternoon or morning, it willmake a difference!

Registrations are now coming in for the 30th KC Wide Open. So, far we have 88 places left in the NT, 173 in the A Tier, and 188 in the B-Tier. The entrants so far are:

NT
Avery   Jenkins   Santa Cruz   CA  MPO
Des   Reading   Wimberley   TX  FPO

A-Tier
Darrin Vlcek     Englewood   CO   MA1
Adam Cooney   Bend   OR   MA1
Juan   Hernandez    Kansas City   KS   MA1
Danny Sieveren   Sacramento   CA   MA1
Jay Reading   Wimberley   TX   MPM
Ed McCulley   Des Moines   IA   MPM
Dennis Vahsholtz   Herington   KS   MPS

B-Tier
Sam   Saluri   Windsor Heights   IA   MA4
Byron   Little   Des Moines   IA   MA2

Of course, I'm biased, but I really think the celebration of the 30th Wide Open, with its three PDGA events, will draw over 400 players. That we have advanced players coming from the West Coast is a good sign that people are thinking about the Wide Open already.

The KCFDC is working hand in hand with both Disc Golf World and Dynamic Discs to ensure the success of this Wide Open. The direction and management of the event has been entrusted to what we call the Gang of Fore—Crazy John Brooks, Dan Cashen, Jack Lowe, Tavish Carduff, and me. You’re going to be hearing much more about the event and why you should be part of it—as player and/or helper and/or sponsor. For now, I wanted to let you know how you can sign up.

You can download a registration form here: http://icebowlhq.com/docs/30thkcwideregistration.pdf

You can sign up online at these places:
PDGA Sign-ups: http://tinyurl.com/kcwoxxx
Dynamic Discs: http://dynamicdiscs.com/Disc-Golf-Tournaments/2012/kansas-city-wide-open.html

You can sign up in person now at: Disc Golf World, 509 E 18th St, Kansas City MO
And soon you’ll be able to sign up in person at: Dynamic Discs, 2854 W 47th Street, Kansas City, KS

Please give me shout if you’re interested in being part of this historic event and with your questions and suggestion.

Can I sign up without having a PDGA number yet? It's pending.

So pumped to actually play this year!

March 24th at Swope campground we will be having a volunteer/fun day planned with camping as well that night.  We will have some libations, and possibly some food as well for those that choose to spend the evening there.

Many of the games that will be part of the Wide Open will be on display that day as well.  So there will be some golf being played early in the afternoon, then head over to the camping party/engagement!

Please plan on attending to have many Wide Open questions answered as well!!

Thanks,

Jack

How long do the rounds usually last each day? I only ask because my wife's birthday is June 4th and I want to know that should I sign up if I will end up on the couch for the rest of the month. :P

Depends on the length of marriage...

Newlyweds - on the couch for a couple of hours (lets face it, women have urges too)
5-10 years - couch for a couple of days max
10-15 years - spare bedroom for 4-5 days
15-20 years - friends house for at least a week
20-30 years - find a new place to live

Just a guideline...lol.

This will be the first year in 6 that I have been home for my wife's b-day.....due to the FRIZ!

As for the round length...this is the worst question to ask about tourny play....the TD has NO IDEA....it all depends on course length, weather, speed of play, and god forbid injured players.  I had a 4.5 hour round at the Wide Open last year due to a player with a broken ankle on the card in front of us.

my experience is 3 hours a round, unless you're on big blue or swope gold, then budget 4 hours. rolling tee times rule for big tourneys if there is the staff for it. if your wife can caddy for you, take her out to dinner, buy her a nice ring, and shoot well.

The tourney is only June 1-2-3 so you'll be done in time to celebrate her birthday.

HAHAHA!!! Yeah... She agreed to me playing as long as she could have my credit card to buy herself a birthday gift. This tourney is gonna cost me a fortune!   ???  ;D

So...has a "official schedule" been set?  Have people traveling from out of town and wanting to get time off work put in.   Fri-Sat right.......but what courses for divisions and such....couldn't find anything on the KCWO page either.

DD Website has a tentative schedule for day-to-day courses and such.

Advanced Am on Swope normal or Swope Gold?  There could potentially be a lot of repair work to do on the ropes if we play Swope regular.  Perhaps opting for paint this year would be a better bet.
