2012 Ace Race
« on: February 23, 2012, 05:06:19 PM »
Got this via e-mail and will not be TD'ing the event this year...so whoever wants it....here is some info.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Howdy hey 2011 TDs,

Thanks again for being part of what we believe is the largest disc golf event in the history of the sport: 298 events and over 13,000 players!    That's all in the past now, and for our 10th year of Ace Race, it's going to be a Really Big Deal.

Plans are already rolling for some cool surprises, but for now we'll just suggest that you take advantage of your pre-registration opportunity, because we don't think the event count will be under 400 for 2012.

Your pre-reg window is now until March 12, at which time we will open registration to everyone.

See you later this year!

Thanks Andy.....Rick doesn't the ice bowl have more events, and didn't we have over 13,000 people just in KC alone?

We have about 260 events that register with us and there are some that don't. IB and AR are really quite different. AR is an excellent promotion for Discraft and it's fun to play in. IB's purpose is not only to fight hunger, but to get positive publicity for the sport by doing something good for the world, often in dismal conditions.

Does anyone know if there is a prize for holding the largest Ace Race. I'm thinking that if we started early enough, KC could do that. It might also be cool to run the Ace Race in conjunction with Distance, MTA, and maybe accuracy.

Thanks again for being part of what we believe is the largest disc golf event in the history of the sport:

If you consider putt-putt part of the sport of Golf, then the ace race could be considered part of the sport of Disc Golf.

actually, it would more resemble the par 3 contest they have on wednesday before the masters, which I agree is borderline "golf".  in disc golf, where there is no safety issue present, clowns mouths, rope, paint, and mandos more resemble putt-putt.  ace race is like the ice bowl.  there are some quirks, yes, but a lot of people seem to have fun playing it.  i would say it definitely qualifies as an "event" as they said but not a sport.
