Wiggins New World Distance Record
« on: April 17, 2012, 12:17:05 PM »
Otter made reference of this in different thread, but surprised there isn'y much discussion about this:

http://www.innovadiscs.com/home/492-david-wiggins-jr-sets-new-distance-record-with-blizzard-champion-boss.html

"On Friday, April 13th, 16 year old David Wiggins Jr. launched a 134-gram Blizzard Champion Boss high into the desert sky. When it returned to earth, spotters confirmed the disc had traveled 836' (255m) and had broken the world distance record. A record that stood untouched for nearly a decade. David was competing in the the High Desert Distance Challenge III in Primm, NV (elevation 2618'). David's throw bested Christian Sandström's record of 820' that was set way back on April 26, 2002 with an Innova DX Valkyrie. "

Is an aircraft hanger tall enough to allow a BIG distance thrower to put enough height on his/her throw?  :o

i like the d in the desert because you have plenty of time to prepare, bring whatever golf disc you want, and throw as far as you can. convenient location, but you had better be a serious distance thrower to take on wiggins, same day same conditions. personally, i'm waiting to set the o100 non turf roller distance since the open record is 1156 m.

Not to knock that toss, because it's stupid long and without that much wind, but this does beg the questions: Should there be weight class based records?  non-wind-aided vs wind-aided?  The later being more relevant in my opinion.

I'D just prefer that the record is set when ALL the distance throwers are there and not just one big thrower. Way to wait til all the distance guys are playing a tourney in Emporia!!

The fact that it was done at an elevation 2618' and with a bizzard over a dx valkyrie and only beat it by 16ft not that impressed.

I think the weight on the valk was pretty low so I think it's just as impressive. And we're all forgetting the main point here... Did Wiggins convert and pick up the birdie? Or did that sucker sail OB?

iirc, the previous record with the valk was done at the same event. same location?

I believe so.
