Well, here's my issue with accepting money. Earlier when I said it was pride and something else I couldn't figure out how to say what something else was. Here is my best attempt at that.
Strictly speaking, I have the money to sign up and go to the Vibram. The issue that I have is not so much affording it as making as close to a cost neutral experience as possible. Last year I went out to Rock Hill just to try to qualify for the (not quite) USDGC and loved the experience and loved all the courses that I got to play because I didn't qualify. But, because I tried to do that around 6 months ago I feel like I've already spent a large sum of money traveling to play the game.
I would really love to go and it is hard to think that I've qualified and not take the opportunity, but it is hard to justify it as a financially responsible action.
My goal for disc golf, other than being the best player that I can be and having the most fun that I can, is to try to attempt to make the experience sustainable. If all it does is act as a drain on my finances (through mostly travel expenses at this point) it becomes harder and harder to accept.
I really would like to thank you all for your support and would like to say once again that you guys and the people that play disc golf in this area are the best.
I won't commit to going yet, after all I have until Friday to make a decision, but because of you support I will reopen my decision making process and will try to figure out if it will work to go out there. It would be an exciting test of how far my game has come and would give me that goal to continue to try to build towards.
So, all that said, we'll see...
