An am can play pro and take cash but will be excluded only from am NT events. They can continue to play both divisions as long as they want. I also think there is a clause which states if the am wins enough money to be a top 100 pro they will be recognized as pro.

just majors, you can play in NT as an Am as long as you are a 970 :cough: or lower rated player.  After 970 if you accepted cash, you can only play in the Pro divisions.  NT is not a Major, only World's and select other events are classified as a MAJOR, Japan Open (No AM division available here), USDGC, AM National's, US Master's (don't think they have an Am division), World's....

Under the section "Pro's playing AM" gives the guidelines accordingly.
