Biggest event of the year......WORLDS......right here in our own back yard. Not many local AMS on the list ???  Its a big plus to have some positive reinforcement from good friends, but I dont see much interest. :-\ ......I can only guess the reason why.

Trophy only?  Guess you should have played Am Worlds in KC in 1999.   :P

It's not trophy only.

Statement from Jeremy Rusco on this issue:

http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83752

Quote
If you are looking to win or place high in your respective division and make a personal gain by receiving additional payout, you still will! We just donít see the need to pay out 250 of 500 amateur players. This creates mass chaos in most instances while all 250 players are trying to rush and get their payout and get on the road at the same time. We want to give you the best experience up front and for the entire time that you are in Emporia and think that we can do this without paying out half of the field.

Quote
Our payouts are some of the best in the business and we have almost zero sponsorship dollars to put towards the events except for the Innova Champion Discs CFR fundraising program and a few minor sponsors here and there. We hosted a very successful Glass Blown Open in 2012 that featured 432 players with a hybrid of trophy only. We handed players a player pack worth approximately $175, sent them off to play three rounds of golf, and then only paid out a small percentage of the field. Most players seemed to appreciate this model. We are doing the same this year and those that place at the top will be rewarded again. This is basically the same model that we put in front of the PDGA board for our 2013 Amateur World Championships bid proposal. The bid was approved and Dynamic Discs and Emporia, Kansas were awarded the Championships with expectations that the amateur tournament model was in need of some adjustments. The PDGA was supportive and encouraging and felt like if this was the year for change, then having Dynamic Discs behind it would hopefully be the best way to bring this to the players.

Place in the top 10-20% and you'll get your payout.

I'm not sure and would love to see a new statement from Rusco.  No mention was made about any payouts in the 3/20 announcement on the pdga site.

Divisions are filling up fast! 3 are already full!

They haven't updated the listing, but when you go to register it says this:

4/2/13 3:45pm EST Note: The ADVANCED Master Women (FM1) division has filled.

4/3/13 11:45pm EST Note: The ADVANCED Master Men (MM1) division is almost full. The last few spots will be filled from the WAITLIST.

4/3/13 11:45pm EST Note: The ADVANCED Sr Grandmaster Men (MS1) division is almost full. The last spot will be filled from the WAITLIST.

If you would like to play, please sign up for a WAITLIST spot -- on the form below. You will be contacted by PHONE to confirm entry -- if a spot opens up. Your credit card WILL NOT BE CHARGED until we have confirmed that you are accepting the spot.

Spots are available on a first come first served basis. If you are signing up for a WAITLIST spot, filling out this form DOES NOT GUARANTEE ENTRY.

Based on demand to date, there will be people who DO NOT get in; do not make travel plans until you hear from us.

Registration should now be open to anyone for divisions with spots open.

Looks like:

Advanced has 5-10 spots depending on their waitlist updates
Advanced Grandmasters has 5 or spots

various other divisions may have 1-3 spots depending on where they are at on their call back lists.

On my drive down I-35 today, I noticed a large billboard promoting the World Championships and while passing through Emporia the local radio station I was listening to had a 15 to 30 second plug about the World Championships only being 10 days away!  It is going to be a fun week!   ;D

Everyone who can only play pro: try to volunteer a day or two. I was hoping to do several but have to work most of the week. I think I'll only get down there for a day but it is still important to help out where we can.
