I thought of running this event years ago and wondered why I had never played in one. Well, I may not play in this one, but I am going to do my best at putting on a great event for all the players.
Roc vs Buzzz
September 22, 2012
Swope Park Disc Golf Course
Presented by The Kansas City Flying Disc Club, West Plaza Tomato Company, Disc Golf World, and Dynamic Discs.
Entry fee: $25.00
Check in from 8:00 to 8:30. Player’s meeting at 8:50. Tee off at 9:00.
Ace Fund is optional at $5.00 and payable cash only on the day of the event. In the event of no aces, a CTP will determine top three pay out spots at 50%, 25%, and 25%.
Players Pack: One custom KC Pro Roc (Rancho) and one custom Z Buzzz, lunch, beverages and a great time. There will be many opportunities for schwag (discs, clothing, and a basket) between CTPs and Ring of Fire competitions.
Tournament will run as follows:
You must throw a Rancho Roc (Rancho Cucamonga mold) or a Buzz (no SS), depending on your team affiliation, from the tee on each hole. You are only allowed to throw your team’s disc and only one putter of your choice. You may not throw your putter from the tee. Layout will be long and short with lots of OB and mandos on a twenty-seven hole course.
The idea is simple. Many of us have thrown both discs over the years but have grown to favor one over the other. Players register as Team Roc or Team Buzz and then all fifty-four players on each team play against each other for the right to be called champions. The winning team will be determined by stroke play and point play, and that team will receive a Roc vs Buzzz custom color mini.
First round cards will be two Roc players and two Buzzz players. Second round cards will be stacked with two Roc and two Buzzz players by first round score. However, in addition to strokes, players will also play for points on each card. If you win the card, you win four points for your team. If you are second on the card, then three points. Third, two. And one, one. The point system makes the first and the last card equally competitive for each team, and may also help to break the many anticipated ties.
The top two players on each team will play a final nine holes for a cash payout to the top four players.
I hope to create a fun sense of rivalry and camaraderie for everyone involved. Thanks to the KCFDC, DGW, DD, and West Plaza Tomato, as well the many volunteers who keep Swope and the KCFDC looking good.
