It's Tracy's thing, he can do what he wants. He wants his team to be built upon certain skills that are closest to those displayed at WW.

I don't think anyone would disagree that WW and Lakeside require very different types of play.

Cooper, I understand this better than most people...which is why I run a tourney every year...so that point is null.  When can we look forward to you running a tourney?   ;)

Tracy, I'm in no way trying to knock you or what you are doing....but as an extreme southwest sider...I may be able to participate in more of these evets if I didn't have to drive all over MO on set week nights...or certain PDGA event...especially since PDGA costs even more money to get qualified for a "local" event.

Kind of seems like you are already bowing to the east side saying that West side courses are not "good enough" to qualify on.

P.S. - Get out and play Lakeside....it's worth your time.

I understand your frustration.  I was very excited to put 5 spots up for grabs at PC.  To have that opportunity taken away bums me out.  Tom, are you just burnt out on PC?  It seems to me you'd want to keep traffic on the new course limited 'til pads were poured and such.

Andy,  I think in general our courses are better.  But I really would hold a Qualifier at Cliff if I thought all the players would go out there. That is where 2/3rds of the points will be available. It makes sense to qualify there. But, I'm not going to have a situation like last year where I was the top scorer at one of the West qualifiers.  No offense to our team, but lack of interest in the qualifiers really hurt our squad last year.

I still say that the East West Challenge should be done at Thornfield or at a temp course designed by non-combatants. Or, it could be done like the America's Cup and the tournament shifts to the state who won the last competition. As far as the qualifiers go; I would rather the try outs occur on the course which is being used in the competition. If we are using WYCO, then we should try out on WYCO.

Some day, Loose Park is going to have a great temp course put up which we can play for an hour before we get run out of the park. Some day.

Tracy,

I'm not burned out on PC. It is suffering from overuse and by keeping league away, I am saving some foot traffic there. Also, it's entirely possible the baskets will not be there while the City has them in the shop getting painted and re-furbished.

Also, the new course needs as much traffic as possible, to "beat it down" some and smooth out the fairways and the rough. It also is helping me see where boxes might be placed in better spots.

I'm not frustrated at all. It's yer deal and whatever you think makes sense is fine. As for holding league at PC on the date you "announced"on March 12, I did immediately reply that league would not be there that night. Sorry if your plans didn't work with mine.

I do agree with Daniel that the qualifiers should be played on the actual courses used in the event though.

I was the captian (and chose my team) of my 9th grade first semester PE class flag football team......we didn't lose ANY games.....just sayin.

My intention is to have the event alternate "advantage" each year. With odd years going to east side and even years going to west side.  That advantage being having 2 of the 3 rounds played on a course on their side of the state line. So this year one round in KS, and two in MO. Next year it will be one round in MO and two in KS.  We may be limited in course selection, if the event continues to shortly precede the Wide Open.  But there are plenty of course to rightfully rotate around to on both sides. But again it will be up to the captains each year, not me.

What about the temp course idea? Would anyone be ready to compete on a course blind? That, I think, is the true measure of disc golf talent - the way someone plays a course without any knowledge of what to throw, where to throw, or how hard to throw it. To illustrate my point: Arturo's first round at USDGC back in 2008 (?) was his first round on the course and he didn't do well at all. However, he knew what he was doing the second round and tore it up. I think if we can tap into that "talent" level we would have a pretty good measure of the teams.

Or we could just play endurance golf where we start at 5 AM and just keep playing, non-stop, until there is only one player left standing. I like that idea too.

It is and it isn't. There are two ways of reading the results. I think it will definitely level the playing field and that's a plus.

Arturo is talented, but he failed to make the necessary adjustments to his game to be successful. He has the shots in his bag, but he wasn't able to take the information given to him by the tournament to create the shots he needed to shoot a good score. So he has talent, but he didn't know how to make adjustments. The second round he was able to apply his talent to his previous experience and shoot a good score. This is common with most players. Most people are complacent in their shot making because they know what disc to use on what hole. They've played that hole so many times it doesn't bother them when they step on the tee pad. But when you put these players in new positions - "playing it blind" - that's when their abilities really showcase themselves. Most "talented" people expose a weakness in their game which they don't develop - learning how to MAKE a shot not from what they see, but from what information they are given. If I say "this hole is uphill, 400 feet, wind is right to left, with OB on the left." what would you throw? OR, if I say, we are going to play WW hole 14. basket is in the far position. winds right to left. What would you throw? Most players familiar with WW will know what to throw, but how many people know what to throw for the first hole description? That's the difference between MAKING (or shaping) a shot - which is one kind of talent, of which there are many.

With all the factions on the west side, I am sure am glad I'm on the east. I talked to east side captain, Ryan Keck, yesterday and he said he would have details this week.

As for holding league at PC on the date you "announced"on March 12,

It was first announced on Feb 1st that we'd have a qualifier at PC either last week or today. The qualifier date was changed to adjust with the change of the event date.   I am also sorry that our plans didn't jive.  I really wanted PC to be a qualifying location.

With all the factions on the west side, I am sure am glad I'm on the east. I talked to east side captain, Ryan Keck, yesterday and he said he would have details this week.

Cool, I was going to give him a ring by weeks end if he hadn't posted something. Thanks E.

I apologize for the delay!  Things have been crazy busy for me and my family.  The first qualifier for the East Side will take place on Monday April 15th at the Cliff driveleague night.  I will be taking the top 4 in Open, as well as the top 2 in masters.  Will be on the hunt for the 2 available women's spots as well.  Remember that it is $25 if you did not qualify last year, and $10 if you did, and still have your shirt.  I will also be scoping out for my 2 captains pick.

My second qualifier will be held at the Water Works league night on Thursday May 2nd.

Again, sorry for the delay, and I will see you all out there!!  Let's make it 2 in row!!

So, I just realized that April 15th is the day after the GBO.  I will be switching it to the following Monday night, April 22nd.  Sorry about the confusion!
