What's the story? Play cut short by weather?  Or just too sloppy?

Had to delay a couple of times because of lightning, just eventually got to the point where we wouldn't have been able to finish by dark.

I think we could have finished. Last lightning call out was the last lightning I saw until 9pm. We only had 6 holes left at 5. No complaints though, I wasn't going to change my position in division anyway. I might have improved my rating some though. I heard there were a few dropping out anyway.

The Kan-U-Wyco was an interesting day.  I was forced to cut the second round short and as per PDGA rules, finish the tournament based on the first round scores only.  It was a difficult decision and one I have never had to make in the 16 years I have been running events.  I made the call, because I do not believe we had even close to enough time to finish.  The last strike was at 5:20 which would have meant assuming at that time there were no more strikes, the players could go back plus another 10-15 minutes to allow players to get to their holes and acclimated.  Most groups had anywhere from 5-9 holes left with less than 30 minutes of possible lighted play.

I have always said i was pretty blessed with the weather I have had with my events over the years but this was the one that reminded how sucky the playing conditions could get.  Otherwise I think the event was going well and things seemed to be operating as they should.

Here are the results for the 1 Rounder Kan-U-Wyco

Again if you have any concerns, comments or complaints, please message me and I would be happy to talk to you more about it.

Thanks

We had close to the same conditions at the Fore Fathers Fling yesterday.  It was one sloppy, muddy, rain-soaking mess!  It took us just over 4 hours, and a half hour stoppage, to complete the first round.  They called it after that, as they didn't feel we could get the second round in before dark.  Most everyone was definitely good with that.  The one round felt like we played 2.  I think I gained ten pounds in excess water soakage....lol

Part of the charm of the Kan U Wyco is the weather.

Yeah was having a blast. So much for my rebound in the second round which would have saved my rating. But with 6 holes to go I got screwed. And yes we could've finished. So any statement otherwise would not be true. And the fact I would've placed but didn't  because only the first round scores counted and not the 12 I had thrown the second round. Can anyone else taste the bile?

I dont think you would have finished, but it was not about just your card finishing.  All of the cards would have had to finish including the groups with 9 more holes to go with very little daylight left.

Thing is, no matter what you do someone will complain about it. If you would have let it play there would be people pissed that their rating suffered because the weather.

Scott made the correct decision.  Not only did it protect each of you, but his decision protects businesses and organizations associated with the event. You see, even though the odds of getting struck by lightning is small, if someone did actually get struck and/or killed by lightening, you can be absolutely certain the wolves (lawyers) would be feasting well for some widow(er) by suing the PDGA, DD and the Park penniless. Then we'd all be wondering why the tournament director didn't take the proper precautions to protect our disc golf friend.  Also, I suppose we could have restarted and played into darkness. Our card had 6.5 holes to go.  I don't think we would have finished before 7:30 after a restart.  But playing in that slop in the dark, with no lights, trust me Wyco gets seriously dark, is also just asking for a lawsuit. So quit being selfish and remember the wolves and all the wickedness that comes with them anytime a round is postponed or cancelled.

Yes, the fog was cool!   8)

By the way, thanks to the each of you that took the time to say thanks for the work I put in on the course. The encouragement keeps me motivated to do it again each year. Also, thanks to Harold and Joe (others?) for shoveling tee pads so they'd be clear for practice rounds. Same goes for anyone that took a moment out of their practice round to move some branches to the piles next to the road. Thanks to Travis D for moving baskets in the rain during our short lunch break.

I'm going out to the course at 3 today, if anyone wants to join me for a tourney layout round before I pull down the fence.  Then I'll be looking forward to next year when maybe we'll all be able to Wyco completely.

Scott made the correct decision.
It does stink you did not get to improve St. Joe KC, but I agree with everything Tracy said.

Tracy, well done on the layout.  I do not play WYCO very much, mainly because it is too far on the wrong side of the state line, but I think it is a very good challenge in its normal set-up.  I thought your use of OB provided the right amount of pucker factor and made the non-flagged difficult holes seem like a walk in the park.

To insure that the weather and the wolves will not be an issue next year I say we move the whole event inside.
