Mega Beer Thread
« on: March 07, 2013, 10:03:47 AM »
We were talking beer in the Old Pike forum, figured it'd be nice to have a beer thread in the general forum.

Ready, set, go!

Did anyone else know that Jack Lowe loves Bell's beer?

Just talkin about how much Lagunitas Sucks is all up in my beer radar right now.

Tried the New Belgie Rampant last night.  for 8.5% it hardly feels like you're drinkin a straight up IPA

Sucks is my favorite Lagunitas product by far.  I think it stands right up there with Hopslam.

But it's no Zombie Dust.

I was aware of Jack's love for Bell's...

Personally, I don't discriminate....  I love beer... 8)

Rusty Bucket from the Brandon Brewery is a current favorite of mine. Too bad one has to go all the way to Suffolk, UK to get it.   :(

That's what I like about you Kevin!  Why didn't you bring back some rusty bucket for the rest of us?

Started my first tour card in 2001....so averaged a little over a tour (110) per year.

I can't really pick a definite favorite either....it's all good!

Guiness Smurf, where are you? Dr. Beer (Oldham) can surely hop us up with some beer levity.

I was drinking it on tap at the Brandon Ram Free House. I didn't know it was available in a bottle until I got back here and went to their website. Besides, I don't think they'd have let me bring beer back on the plane, so I brought Scotch.  8)

You can put beer in your checked bags for most international flights.  I have a friend in the UK that mules stuff here for me occasionally and he will just wrap it up in his checked bags.

I actually thought this years bottled Hop Slam was on par with last years, and it's still probably my favorite seasonal.  However, I wasn't real impressed with it on tap down at Flying Saucer.  I did have a cold at the time, so there's that.  I would agree with Palmer though that Double Jack ranks right up there with it, minus the honey.

I've been getting into imperial stouts lately, and my latest love affair is the bourbon barrel-aged from Schlafly.   http://schlafly.com/beers/styles/bourbon-barrel-aged-imperial-stout/  Drinks similar to last years Rye On Rye for me.  I honestly wasn't real hot with Schlafly in general, but between this and their T-IPA they are slowly becoming a label I look for when browsing through the coolers.

When can we expect KBS to come in?

I did have to put the Scotch in my checked bag once I got to Chicago for the trip to KC. But from Heathrow to Chicago I was allowed to carry it on. I'm quite happy with the Scotch I brought back but if I make it over there again, which I hope to do next year, I will look into bringing beer back instead. I know there are limits to what is allowed so I will just have to see what the max is and load up.
