Pdga ratings

Here's a question someone should know. The WYCo tourney was my first pdga rated round. It was set up as a par 60 Saturday. But if the pdga rates it as a 54 then which par will my rating be based on?

Ratings aren't based on par, they are based on how the other players playing the same course play that particular round.

When a player has enough rated rounds, they can become a propagater, which essentially just means their rounds can be used to determine how 'hard' the course was playing that day and how you played in relation to that difficulty.

Perhaps that explains my post under the Rosedale Open thread.  I shot par (54) the first round and Pete Cashen shot a blistering -10 the first round.  My first round rating was 947.  My second round was +1 (55) and nobody shot better than -3 and my second round rating was 954.

Yea I saw that but couldn't see where I had any ratings so I didn't understand how some people could have ratings and some don't.

First off - ratings are not perfect, but they are a very good tool.

My understanding is, ratings can fluctuate based on weather conditions, woods, etc.  The discussion of doing +1 2nd round Rosedale Open, yet have a rating that is 10 points better is explanable if the wind, rain, etc. dramatically worsened.  Ratings are a comparison of you against the field.

It's somewhat of a moving target.

Would you rather be an 810 rated winner or 1040 rated runner-up? Don't worry about your rating - It's the dead end goal in disc golf. A good rating only comes in handy when you are signing up for certain tournaments. The rest of the time it's just fodder for endless arguments over assumed talent level.

i think the field of rated players <propagators> is the most important factor in the ratings process.

If you are not a PDGA member, at times it will not give you a rating next to your name.  You need to have at least 5 rated rounds in order to qualify I believe for a rating next to your name.
