For those that may not know Mike Wesley he is one of the primary designers and a driving force behind the WyCo disc golf course. He is also a long time member of the Kansas City Flying Disc Club. If you've ever seen his underhanded left-hand throw you'll remember him.
Here's the problem.... Mike just found out that they are closing the Rockledge course and pulling the baskets on May 1st. Someone is buying the land and building a business there.
Mike moved to Rockledge Florida two years ago and has been happily working, living and playing disc golf there ever since. This is a private disc golf course that is one of the oldest permanent courses in the country. It was established in 1978. I was there last week and played it and it is a fun, tight, technical course. He has played it almost daily since moving there.
The City of Rockledge has a park nearby that they suggested they may move the baskets to and put the course in as a public course but they are balking on it now. Mike needs advice on how to convince the city that a disc golf course is a good thing for the park. It is in a nice area so keeping out the riff-raff isn't valid, they don't have a problem with "cruising" so that isn't valid. I have suggested that it will increase foot traffic in a seldom used area of the park. Can anyone think of other arguments Mike can present to the city to convince them to move the course from the private land into the public park? Are there resources anyone knows of that he can use to help build his argument?
You are free to share you thoughts here or call him directly. His number is 321-302-0431. Thanks.
