Urban Tournament?
« on: December 16, 2013, 11:25:18 AM »
I came across this video:
2013 Cary (NC) Downtown Urban Open (Final Round)

Its the final card of the Urban Championships in Cary, NC.  This reminds me of a course we used to play through the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence and it was a ton of fun.
My questions are:
  • Has anyone here ever looked into doing this somewhere in the KC metro?
  • Which municipality do we think would let us set something like this up?
  • Hole ideas?
  • General tohughts?

Very cool vid!

Reminds me of a tourney (OZ Tour event) I played out in Colby, KS where a temp course (at Colby Community College) was set up adjacent to and including some of their permanent course, Villa High DGC.  It had urban elements other than playing near busy streets.  I believe this was either over Thanksgiving or Christmas break so there were no students/faculty or cars present.  Very enjoyable golf with a very different feel.  The course was not near as tight as the one in the vid though.
Something to consider/think about as a safer area to play...especially when no one is around.

I'd be all over an urban event. Very cool.  Been day dreaming about doing so since before I ever heard it has been done.
