Promoting Disc Golf To Kansas City Youth

The KCFDC was recently given the opportunity to promote disc golf at two youth sporting events  in Independence and Blue Springs.  The events were held on January 21 and January 28 2012.

Both events were produced by the local parks and recreation departments. The events encourage Kansas City area youth to learn about and sign up for local athletics, clubs, and groups. Also appearing were the T-Bones Mascot Sizzle and the Chiefs KC Wolf.

Between the two events, we talked to more than 150 adults and 75 kids about Disc Golf .

The KCFDC booth drew in large crowds and was so successful for a number of reasons…

- The  putting contests for kids were a huge draw, and we gave away club putters for the putting contests.

- The stack of Discgolfer magazines along with “What is Disc Golf” flyers we were giving away were really sweet.

- The flat screen TV displaying  disc golf dvds, the club banner and pdga banner  along with a couple of baskets on display attracted lots of attention.

I would like to thank Eric Minton  for helping both weekends, CD Steiner for loaning out his dvds and for donating several discs for the putting contests, and Tom and Kathy Henderson.  In addition, thanks to the KCFDC for donating putters for the event.  Lastly, a huge  thanks goes out to Dan Cashen  for contacting the PDGA,   and thanks to the PDGA for donating us a box of Discgolfer magazines and flyers.

- Thanks to all for helping make the events a huge success!

John Theiss
KCFDC Vice President, Missouri
