It's Summer League Time -
To accommodate the earlier start of Daylight Savings Time, all of Kansas City's afternoon leagues are teeing off at 5:30 (5:00 for Wyco) until March 31, when they will move to their traditional tee off times of 6:00. If possible, please register with the league director 15 minutes before league tees off. If you're running late, give the director a call.

Kansas City Leagues are open to all players, regardless of Kansas City Flying Disc Club membership. The cost is $5.00 ($1.00 off for club members) and an optional ace pool entry of $1.00. Technically, our leagues are not "leagues" in the classic sense like in bowling or pool, but rather weekly mini-events where we play for either cash or KC Kash, which can be redeemed for plastic. Please note that the New Players League, which is about learning from and meeting other players is free and not limited just to "new" players. (A more traditional league is being proposed: http://kcfdc.org/forum/index.php?topic=1857.0).

League scores will be tracked during the year, and posted both at kcfdc.org and at the course. Averages will be computed, so people will be able to track their improvement (hopefully) and how they stack up against all other players in that league. In addition, we now have the ability to use the PDGA Ratings formula to create ratings based on league play. The means that we will be able to give ratings to non-rated players after they compete in a couple of leagues.

While there are dedicated doubles leagues at Pleasant Hill and Cliff Drive/Blue Valley, the other leagues will be primarily singles, with occasional doubles events. While the final details on how doubles will work will be announced, we’d like to try both divisional doubles and seeded doubles, where we try to equalize the teams, regardless of division, age, or gender. This is where ratings should prove useful.

If you've never competed in a disc golf event before, league play is great way to test the competitive waters in a friendly, low-key manner. If you have any question, please contact a league director or the current KCFDC President Rick Rothstein at 816.471.3472 or at rick at discgolfworld dot com.
